#003 and #004

I just finished my fourth board, so I thought I’d share some pictures of my last two projects. Both of them are EPS with RR epoxy.

#003 is a 6’2" fish, about 3" thick. I finished it in March, so I’ve had time to get it out in the water a bit. It’s the first fish I’ve ever ridden, but I’m really liking how it rides. Definitely a change from the usual longboard. The Probox inserts were the easiest install that I’ve done so far.

#004 is 8’6" x 22 1/2" x 3". I built it for my girlfriend who is just learning to surf. It was the first time that I had ever used a power planer during shaping, and it made it a ton easier. I really think it helped to get better curves than on any of the previous boards. And I definitely have to say thanks to spence and deanbo for their help with the template. I’ve got a few build photos to go along with this one.

I was pretty happy with how shiney I was able to get this board. I was expecting less after what I had read about polishing epoxy. I sanded 320-400-600-100-1500 then rubbing compound and polishing compound. I wonder if I could have gotten even better with swirl remover and machine glaze, like the board lady recomends.

Nice work, thanks for posting the pictures up. The real question is, how did you get your girl to let you work on them inside the house? Mine is about to kill me with the mess I have made of the garage, the washer and dryer are out there and I have gotten foam dust EVERYWHERE!! What did you use for the cloth inlay on the longboard?

nice job on that longboard…and i love that your hotwiring in your house…classic.

6inall,

pick up a couple cheap tarps and staple gun them to the ceiling. contains the mess. like this…

The cloth is some cotton fabric that we found at JoAnn Fabric. It actually started as more of a megenta and pale yellow, but darkened up with the resin. One of those unexpected changes that turns out better than planned. As far as the working space, most of the mess was made in the storage area of the apartment I had before we moved in together. The new place in definitely not big enough to work in, so I’m on the hunt for a new work space.

Nice ‘rocker.’ The boards look great, too. P-40 Warhawk? Mike
