Sorry for the washed out pictures. My camera ain’t what it used to be.
This is #3 on the SUP’s. 10’6"x20"x29"x18 7/8", 4 1/2" thin. This one is for a cutomer that wanted a swallow and a quad. Blank was a custom cut eps 2lb. foam. Glassed with 7.5oz. bot. and double 7.5oz deck with RR epoxy. The amounts of epoxy resin for lamination are ridiculous.
These things are a work out to shape. Need to get myself a skil if I start doing more.
Love it. Love the outline. The whole look. Too many questions. Rocker profile would be nice, but understand if you wish not to. Your comment about ridiculous amount of RR; you mean too much? or so little compared to poly? I did an 11 footer in 1 pound EPS, but I double sealed it and did in fact use a butt load of resin. But I kept telling myself I would have been knee deep in PE if I had gone that route.
Source for the deck material? Affordable?
What fin template will you provide? I used two pair of Futures twins, but I have not gotten useful feedback from the riders.
Yes, they seem to be three times as much work as a short board. And all the tools, clamps, racks, etc have to be “biggied” in order to do the work. I still have a few blanks left from the block, but it will be a while before I have the energy to shape them.
You and Topper probably did this one a couple of months ago. This is one of the ones with the rail bands. Can’t wait to try one of the new ones without the bands.
This rocker goes unreal. Really starts to work when the surf gets good. Funny I was giving Topper a hard time on the blanks rocker, because I didn’t know what the hell I was talking about. Turns out that profile is all performance and function. Wouldn’t change one bit of it.
I bet Black Rock is going this morning. Middles was pretty fun yesterday.

Thx for the info.
Greg, thanks for the positive comments. My wife laughs when I shape one of these beasts. I have to set up a lawn chair 20’ away so I can sit and check how the rocker is progressing. Sometimes I feel like I’m lost in a sea of foam when I’m shaping. I’m really tempted to use the local milling machine, but I need the planer time.
Ask away. No secrets here. I was just commenting on the amounts of resin needed to laminate the board, especially the deck. I think I use 22oz of resin and Qcel per side just to seal the blank.
I’ve been testing all sorts of different fins on my board and have gotten good feedback from another customer. Seems so far the vector 2 quad sets of 438 fronts and the 4" double foiled rears are going the best for wave riding. I tried the VFT1’s and it felt like too much fin.
Board will tend to track less in a straight line when paddling but just comes alive on a wave. I also found that the boards will track better and have a better feel during turns if the back fins are mounted a bit further from the rail then the fronts. Similar to a short board but much more exagerated.
The pad is from Hydroturf http://www.hydroturf.com/. You can buy a sheet and make your own. I laughed when the guy told me that a premade pad from one of the SUP companys was $170. I also use contact cement and install the pad like a formica counter top. The 3m sticky glue on the pads never seems to last and for $25 I can glue on 4 pads.
I installed a single fin box as well as the quad boxes on the one prior, but the guy says he prefers it as a quad.
Next one is going to be a SUP speed dialer. Double wing something, not sure yet maybe a diamond or a swallow. 10’2" by 28" wide. Going to try and lighten it up and use 6oz. instead of the 7.5oz. Maybe a little corecell action on the deck.
