…It doesnt feel that bad for the first mile or 2, but then you fall off once. Then again, and then alot…

I plan to sink some small leash plugs the the nose area for somewhere to strap dive/spearfishing gear to and get on the paddies offshore of the San Mateo point. Its just a mile or 2 offshore and loaded with white seabass. I like to paddle and shoot things in the head, so I get the best of both worlds now…

Speaking of leash plugs, what does the SUP wisdom here think about (retention) leashes in general for these animals? Ankle or wrist straps don’t seem to be the plan, but maybe a waist strap of some kind? I’m not really pro or anti leash in general (“horses for courses”) I’m just thinking that you can easily get a very long way from shore on these things, and the chances of falling and getting separated from the board (if only by a few feet) appear to be way higher than for, say, a canoe or a yak. The picture of that happening several miles offshore just when a little freshening breeze comes along to start pushing the nicely high floating stick away isn’t very pretty :->

One thing I did last year when in South Africa when riding logs (10’+) at Cape Town was let the long leash just drag in the water behind the board. Fall off? Simply grab the trailing leash. I guess if you just had 12 feet of string hanging off the back you should be able to get to it quickly enough before your supertanker sails into the distance and 12 feet of string wont ruin your ride, heck, hang a bit of bait and catch a big fish whilst paddling!! Or… get really daring and cut out a seal template …

ac: i missed this thread the first time around. too funny. thanks.
