I shot a skunk with a .410 about a week ago . Still smell like one, so should be no problem. Throw a balll or a frisbee and that pussy "killer" lab is gone. Throw a tow strap around that gun safe hooked to the rear bumper of my 4x4 Camo truck and that's it. Get yourself a couple of Rottweilers that somebody neglected and took to the pound. They'll hate you and everybody else.
I hit the yardsales every weekend. Not so much by choice, per se, but because its my (wife's) business. My wife sells antiques and collectibles, and used books. Has for years. We used to own our own store, but now she rents a retail space in an antiques mall, so she doesn't have to be there, they have employees that man the cash register.
So we go to yardsales almost every Sat. Not always my first choice for a Sat. morning, but it does have an upside. Which is that a surfer / surfboard builder can find a lot of cool stuff, for pretty doggone cheap.
Here's some of the yardsale stuff I have picked up.
This router was cheap, I don't remember exactly, maybe $5 or $10, it was stored near the pool chemicals, so it looked rusty and nasty, but it works fine. Its an old Craftsman.
Seems like they always have boxes or piles of old clothes. So I started looking for surfer shirts, and other stuff with the aloha style patterns - I get these for her to sell.
Got this dremel for $5.
The following week I got this dremel stuff, they just threw it in for nothing with some other stuff I was buying.
Ghetto credit card, always handy in the workshop.
This is the stuff you get for a quarter...
I mighta paid a buck for the rubber mallet.
This is the stuff everyone else passes over on their way to the next Antiques Roadshow find LOL.
blow drier $2 - don't even know if it works, haven't tried it yet.
I bought a box full of these clamps awhile back, think I probably paid like $20 for the box.
Got these clamps for a buck each (the orange ones), and the old sure-forms below are yardsale finds too.
this cute little hand plane is just a couple inches long - haven't tried it yet
I paid 3 or 4 bucks each for the scales - handy for weighing epoxy resin / hardener
Nobody definitely wanted these, as the box was open - they gave 'em to me free, my wife is wondering what the heck I got them for, I told her just never mind about my stuff, this is for my workshop!
These are both good boards, I paid like $3 for the one below, the top one is a sector 9, and I paid $25 for it. He wanted $40, I offered $25 and he made a face, but took it.
More stuff they give away, I always check out the kitchen stuff
half-used can of dna for a buck, you'da picked it up too!
rolls of masking paper a buck each, glue gun, rolling pin seemed like it might come in handy for sanding bonzer channels...
I don't even know why I bought this stuff, but it was like a nickel each or something, I might use it someday...
This from a day I didn't go out with her - my wife called and said I'm at a yardsale you better come check this out. I didn't feel like going, but I went, and it was a contractor retiring for health reasons, I bought a boatload of his tools, bessy clamps, etc. etc. This was just thrown in with the mix for nothing, but they've come in real handy.
they give this stuff away for quarters, because they have no idea how expensive blue tape is these days
I thought this might be handy for filling fin plugs when glassing over them.
The balsa has come in handy for my oddball hws projects. I got both boards for $20 each. The Catri needed some TLC, but went for about $250 on ebay. The clamps are weird, are they piano tuner clamps or something?
And yes, I found this at an estate sale for $75. Sadly, economic circumstances forced me to ebay it before I ever used it. My wife, bless her heart, said Don't sell it - but doggone, we gotta eat, and the remodeling business is just so nonexistant these days LOL!
Wow! Those are crazy finds.
Here’s mine: I sold my 7.5 back-up about 6 months ago since it just collected dust for 10 years. About a month later I couldn’t sleep one night so I started searching Craigs (I never do that) and see this. I call the guy and tell him I have a friend that lives nearby that can pick it up. He was stoked as was I. My buddy delivered it to me when he came to surf and it runs great. Now I have a 5.5 back-up and a back-up jointer conversion thing, and some back up belts for $20.
Nice score!
I’m always on the lookout for one of those.
My wife and Grandpa have standing orders to check for them too.
Garage sales, flea markets, craigslist,… It’ll happen one day =)
Stoked for you!
What is this Collingswood of which you speak? I assume it is something else other than the town of Collingswood that is just on the South Jersey side of Philadelphia, correct?
Rt. 34, Monmouth County, NJ
I figured as much. I didn’t know of any regular/worthwhile flea market in the SJ town of Collingswood. Thanks.
