I have a couple of questions regarding a 1964 G&S that I purchased. I found this board hanging in a garage since 66’! (Less than 20hrs of water time according to the original owner) Still had parafin wax on it. Zero dings/heal dents! The only problem is that the owner decided to place a layer of orange pigment over the complete board except for the logo/fin. I was also given the original sales slip and price sheet/flyer to boot! All for $400. Anyway, would it be better for me to let it be as is or to go ahead and take off the pigment and re-gloss?? Any ideas what this board might be worth?? Your Thoughts??
I cant comment on how much the board might be worth, at the very least the $400 you paid for it, but I’d say the pigment coat probably preserved that board. If you should decide to sand it off, I would think it would be as clean as a board of that vintage could be. I saw a board on ebay, a 1969 Bing Good Karma that was as pristine as could be. Almost looked like it was done last week. From what I could see from the photos, it looked like it has never been in the water. The WAVE set fin looked great too.
