1970 single fin Hansen pintail

Hi dumb question but I have an old project board and am wondering where in relation to the fin would my back foot be on a single fin. Im going to use a tail pad mostly just to cover an old unsightly delam repair someone did but Im also going to use this to kite with.
Any help would be great

You need pictures if you want these guys to chime in.

True.   I’ve shaped thousands of Hansen surfboards, but need to see a photo to get a grasp of what you are addressing.

There are a few pictures of the board on my only other post. Cant get anything to upload today but it’s the same board as the other post.
Thanks in advance.

pics from the other thread…

Thanks Scott

As to your original question - for rear foot placement on a board from that era: your back foot would be anywhere from directly on top of the fin to about 3 to 4 feet in front of it. It was more about your front foot, really.

It’s a transition era board - not a dinky potato chip where you stand stagnant in one spot…people who rode those boards actually had ridden long boards and had an appreciation for riding WITH the wave, not treating it like an empty swimming pool on their skateboard.

Check some vids from the time - Billy Hamilton and Mark Martinson come to mind - and you’ll see that it’s all about TRIM - not hack and slash - even later, Lopez and those guys in the day - watch their front foot style. The wave dictates where you place your feet at any point on the face of the wall.

You have to know where you come from - or where your board does, in this case - before you can know where you’re going…

That's right Pete.  Jeff Hakman was another who made the transition with style.  There's quite a bit of video of him around on early short boards.  Lowel
