oops …
I went to the Surfabout at Narrabeen in 1976. Got up really early in the morning, dragged my stuff and board on the buses and the train for 2 hours, walked for miles....
Got there and it was flat and cancelled, didn't get a surf and got home after dark....
It was a classic, the coke classic.Wayne Spong, my young mate, from Norah Head riding one of my boards, 6'0" single fin, flyer swallow, knocked off Buzzy Kerbox, the defending champ, in the 1st round of the main event, then came up against Simon. I backed him, but it was Simon at home, he got a 9th, Simon won, great contest. H.
funny, I posted before I watched it,the only thing I got wrong was , I think it was a 5'10" great days, H.
Thanks Nuclear, that was great, cheers H.
Yep, legendary!
Surfabout on TV as a kid - brought it home for the frothing groms. Larry Blair vs Wayne Lynch 1978.
Interesting, there's quite a big difference in board lengths and looseness between '78 and '81. They look way oversized at North Steyne '78.
Did the emergence of thrusters correspond with a drop in lengths?

First of all Good day! I would just like to give thanks to the admin who posted this one I really appreciate it thank you. Yeah right I totally agree with you the defending champ, in the 1st round of the main event, then came up against Simon. Keep up the good work and Godbless!
If there was a link in the first post, it’s gone now. Anyone got it please .?
Friday arvo, drive to the island, eat counter meal at Lyalls while watching surfabout, get amped and go surf Woolamai beach breaks…surfabout on TV was inspiring back then, really helped my surfing.
