what is the easiest type of board to shape for my 1st board? I was thinking maybe a longboard with 50/50 rails? Are the EZ-foam starter kits worth it? or will i want better stuff when I get the hang of it? Thanks in advance!! Slingie http://http://www.noseriding.com/pages/skipFrye.htm
make a board that is the size/shape you want. I don’t think there is an easiest, just don’t get silly with triple concaves, reverse v, etc. as for the board kits, I got everything I needed for an 8’ and a 9’ except fins for around $300, resin and all. compare to kits. the starter tool kits are pretty cool. wish they were around when I started. one stop shopping rules but I don’t know how much more you’ll be paying for the convenience. I don’t think you’ll need dragon skin. the rest you can get at home depot. the only thing I think you’ll want to add later is a power planer from clark…oh, and a fine set of calipers from me.
Thanks JR!! I dont think I want to even attempt to do the glass! I will probably take it to the same shop Harbour does. I would prob get a P20 SB Power Planer…is this a good tool? The PRO SHAPING KIT from Foam-EZ comes with that one…the kit is $335. Shaping 101 Video; 10.5 Surform; Block Plane; Spokeshave; 2 - 40Grit Sandpaper; 2 - 80Grit Sandscreen; 2 - 120Grit Sandscreen; 2 - 5.5 Surform Blades (for Fred-Tool); Dragon Skin; P20SB Power Planer; Exhaust Attachment; EZ Square; C-Callipers; Dust Mask Sound like everything I need?
that about covers it. the way I figure it you’re in for around $50 for convenience.
Where does Rich Harbour get his boards glassed at?>>> Thanks JR!! I dont think I want to even attempt to do the glass! I will > probably take it to the same shop Harbour does. I cant remember the name of the place…if you call the shop they will tell you. Are certain foam densities of blanks easier to work with? eg. super green opposed to classic foam? http://www.harboursurfshop.com
