Well, after 3 afternoons worth of effort I have shaped my first board. A little lumpy, but all in all i’m stoked. I am resisting the urge to keep fussing with it, removing scratches, trying to get everything totally even. It seems the more you mess with the blank, the more you need to fix. The board is a mini noserider made from an 8’10"S blank. I used the whole blank, so the board is 8’10" x 21 3/4" with a 17" nose and a 14" pintail. It is probably just under 3" thick. Luckily the blank has nice rocker in it already. I am taking it to be glassed this weekend, hopefully. Is Basham’s open on Saturdays? I would like to thank all of the regulars on this sight, the information has been really valuable. I will post pictures when the board is done.

Shaping a long board is nice, because the mistake factor performance wise is a little more forgiving… The only critical mistake you could probably make and have it ride funny ( of course there are others ) is not having the front 2/3 rails soft enough. The board will track weird when dropping in or turning if there sharp or blocky . Just ask your glasser if he thinkks there ok. If he’s a good guy he’ll tell you the truth have you go back home and fix it . If not he’ll glass it up regardless and take your money .
Basham’s is open on Saturday, but for limited hours. i think it’s something like 12:30 to 2:00. brad will be in the shop and he’ll help you out. they do some very fine glassing work there. good luck -steve
