2+1 for Vito's 7'10"

Here’s a Full-on “Mental” 2+1 set-up for a 7’10".

Thought I’d share these.

Rooster’s acid swirl center for his egg is next.

The Center is 7.0" ~ Rails are 4.5"

They’re poly lay-ups; Center is 32 layers of 6oz - rails 22 layers. Vertical cord is 20% off the leading edge on the over cambered surfaces. The under camber side of rail fins is fully concaved with leading edges are double foiled and trailing edges are eased. The rails are also torsioned in the direction of laminar flow. Vito says he likes the sharky look.

Note: High aspect fins like these give the impression of being bigger than they are. The actual surface area of the template is really the determining factor when it comes to sizing fins. (I.e. a 5 inch Mental is similar to a 4.5" common thruster fin in surface area)

Size is a relative thing. Tall isn’t necessarily large; ask any six footer who weighs 150lbs.

Vito is in North Carolina. When he sends me some photos of them on his board and shares performance reports, I’ll pass them along. Guess the east coast is working pretty well these days.

Yep, east coast is still working, just had two chest to head high glassy days here in New Hanover County. Your fins look awesome, as always.

Killer fins. Can’t wait to get mine and try it on my little scooter. Mike

Hello Halcyon,

nice fins as always, they must be a blast to ride.

About the size of the fins i can say that the Halcyon's Flaco that i have isn't what you see... I mean, the first time i saw it i though "wow, this is too big", but the truth is that it feels like if you where riding an smaller fin with the holding power of a bigger fin. The fin also creates lift instead of drag (as many big fins do), so this must help with this feeling.

The thing is that i have shorter fins, with less surface area that feel bigger, and i also have taller fins with more surface area that doesn't hold as much.

The last time i used the fin was on a 6'9'' C.I. Singlefin and the board was so free... without loosing driving, but the previous session with this fin was with a 9'8'' noserider and the fin worked too. In fact, for the first time, i was able to do long noserides and turn (change of direction, not a full turn) the board from the nose. The fin is really sensitive.

All those things are what opened my eyes, and what showed me that the template of the fin is just a part of the ecuation. I think that the foiling on Halcyon's fins is something really special.

Vito, you'll have a great time rediscovering your board with this set up.

                   Halcyon, thanks for sharing, again.

                   Good waves.

                   Coque.
