2 down, a milion to go....

Here’s one I just got done making for a friend…It’s only my second board, so don’t laugh too much.

5’8"

22" wide

17" nose

16" tail

2 7/8" thick

Homemade wooden fins.

Color came out a little to opaque on the deck, but oh well, live and learn. First one I’ve done a full resin tint on both sides. Still have to rub it out and polish it…

Nice.

Hey…Are you following me??

nice 2nd board. how’d you do the kid graphic, it looks REALLY real…

just kidding

It’s one of those large screened laminates…I still need to sand the feet and legs off the bottom, as you can see, otherwise I’m happy with the results.

Time for a sweet marble swirl…

Tenover,

Nice job!! Does the little one belong to you? She’s even nicer looking than the board. Congrats!

Your SECOND board? Wow! well done… …you have a ‘knack’ for it. What’s next?

Nice board!, and nice resin job! Your friend must be anxious to ride it, let us know about his/her feedback.

Good waves!

Tenover,

That’s a really nice looking board - def give some feedback on how it rides.

Keep pumpin’ out…

At first sight, I started thinking: “Weird curve in the nose area… I’m pretty sure I see a straight line here on the right side… That overlap is not quite perfect…” and, well, all those things that strike you in the eyes when you’re a fifty years old and you’ve seen and shaped a good number of boards. Then I remembered what my second board ever looked like (I was 15, then). And I’m not posting any shot of it, although I still have one or two sleeping somewhere. Definitely not. I don’t want to be laughed at. Boy, you did a hell of an outstanding job for a second try, especially the glassing part. Keep up the great work, and let’s see some more soon…

Man, your second board almost looks like a small child. Nice job.

A little more difficult to do the entire tint completely by yourself? Just did my first tint a couple weeks back too… after 10 boards I was starting to feel pretty confident in my glassing - man that tinting amplifies every dam imperfection. Builds character though, right?

I saw your logo on the tint (assuming it was layed on top?) and thought I’d offer an FYI: I bought some thicker rice paper at the art store a while back, turns out it doesn’t go completly transparent when wetted out. So I tried the ‘white spray paint on the back’ trick for this tinted board I did. Well, it works incredibly well, not the slightest hint of blue tint coming through (and mine was closer to opaque than tint). It really creates a nice contrast next to all the tinted glass; makes your logo jump out. Doing a precise cutout kinda sucks, but was worth it. I liked it sooo much I’ll probably be coloring my next couple of boards (Though I think I’m going back to sprays) just so I can make the white logo.

You seem to really be into doing tints (2 for 2?) so I just thought I’d offer the suggestion. The board looks great regardless. Oh yea, also tried the white Posca pens for a pin line… not sure if I did something wrong, but these things suck. Kind of a flaky, fake looking white?? Maybe I should try again before making up my mind. That said, pinlining with those pens on resin, instead of foam, is so easy it’s almost cheating.

I think we’re going to have to get all of us So Cal rookie shapers (< 20 boards?) together for a surf sometime so we can all gloat about how good our first couple of boards came out compared to the old schoolers… thanks Swaylockians. Who says there’s nothing valuable on the internet?

She’s a beauty! The board looks good too!

I guess it’s O.K. for a second board ;>

Nice job flip, now What’s next?

Fish,Log, short, or something completely different…
