Has it been decided yet Nick? It’s due within the next month as far as I am aware. My first guess would be Matt Biolos (Lost) for obvious reasons (marketing ability). Otherwise I think Greg Loehr and his version of a compsand could be a worthy candidate. Otherwise how about Miki or the Shape3D guys? Ideally I would like to see it go to someone who has done something fairly groundbreaking this year, like “Stretch” and his quad winning a big wave contest. Gerry Lopez and his tow boards. Bert Burger for waking up the industry a bit.
Oh it’s been decided … and I reckon it’ll be a surprise to pretty much everyone … but damned if I’m ruining that surprise.
Not even a hint?
No.
trust me it’s better this way.

Why would marketing ability have anything to do with a shaper of the year? What constitutes a shaper of the year anyway? Industry waking up? Seems to me it going on the same old herd mentality that it’s always been on. Whats the latest greatest and then that fades into the next latest greatest.
The shadow industry thats always existed and consist of some of the masters who are out of the limelight is where the real quality is being produced. That hasn’t changed and it’s nothing new. Some are starting to come out into the public now, but they have been there all along.
Shaper of the year, Surfer of the year, Shape offs and etc: Like George C. Scott said about the Oscar after wining it for Patton…" The whole thing is a Goddam meat parade…I want no part of it."
Ahhh…I feel better now.
I know…but I’m not tellin’

Solo wants them to re-name it ''Pointy-Nosed Thruster Shaper of the Year".

The choice is obvious…“He who cannot be mentioned…”
Hey Cleanlines, that’s pretty funny! Go 50 yards from my factory and nobody has heard of me! Tybee Island, Georgia? Is that on the coast??
please tell me that chandler is finally going to get the recognition he deserves…!!!

If they chose Geoff Mccoy as shaper of the year…I would still call Bull on it. So would Geoff. There is nothing non agenda driven about the thing.
Hope not…I still have boards to order…
