Gonna do the same old thing or really challenge yourself…???..
Im gonna make it a point to make some job specific tools
IE..curved sanding blocks, templates ect
I'm going to hot rod my new Makita planner and make it work better than my Hitachi. With 7.5 amps on the Makita, that should not be a problem.
And then I will finish my 7-6 balsa gun that I put aside because I was screwing it up with every stroke.
I'm also going to get an order together for Ken at Segway and try a machine shaped blank.
I have to get busy on my asymetrical fish and finish that project.
And then in my spare time, I'm going to build a pig for me based on a picture I have of a cool board with Marsha Bainer holding it. It will have quad fins and color panels in primary colors. Thank you Bill Thrailkill for the template.
And then, if there is any time left, I will.............go surf. (misplaced priorities)
To get the good waves, you gotta do the mileage . I spent '09 waiting for the waves to come to me , and they didn't come that often ...................................as far as challenging myself , that's an ingrained habit.
I hope to go on a surf trip this year to Indo so ill need to make a board to take there, so ill be relying on the good advice of all the swaylocks folks for what I need to think about…
Then some EPS stuff I want to do with balsa rails, nice and cheap foam so hope to make a few boards with pre cut stringer pieces of foam glued together then shaped, similar to aboard I did on the " need some glassing advice someone? " thread.
Hope fully do a few custom boards to get some cash back into the pocket!
Next I hope to make an Agave solid chambered board if I can scrape together enough material…
Then if i can afford it buy a vac pump and do a few bamboo deck boards…
Then , then , so many ideas and only so much time to work on them:)
Hoping for a hard long season of summer work to make enough cash to fund an extended surf trip southwards, Peru, Nica… some others… 6 months at least is the goal…
Hear Peru may be hard(ish) to find boards at, so I’m considering making up a small travel quiver…
Also, learn to use the power planer I have sitting here, and try to really cut back on wasted resin!
I’m gonna really challenge myself to do the same old things…
…only better.
Build less boards and surf more.... I got way too many boards now.
D
I agree with Dennis. I want to take a break from making boards and spend more time riding the boards I already have. I’m still riding a different board every time go surfing. I need to spend more time on one board to decide if I really like that board or not.
Mine is K.I.S.S. Try to build a board without any colorwork, pinlines, no wood, vacuum bagging, etc. Maybe, just maybe that will result in a board with no major screw ups (yeah, right… Murphy is my friend)
Try to build a board without any colorwork, pinlines, no wood, vacuum bagging, etc..............................goin bodysurfing?.................da fins ??
Build myself a shed. The lean-to ive got doesnt really work since i have to pack everything up in 10 seconds when it starts raining. Which is every few minutes here in Ireland.
I will not ruin any good clothing this year by getting resin on them.
since I've had their building plans for several years now..
a Fat Penguin and Dragonboard/Future Primitive to try out for myself
then a Jensen and Rich style hollow wood board to say I did one
and hopefully actually sell something to pay for some of the tens of thousands I've spent playing around being a swaylaholic zombie
then I can finally quit,
clean the place up
and just surf to get good at it again
just surfing is so much easier
I have two new goals for resin formulations. I very quick one for setting boxes (think I’ve already got that) and another that I have to keep down low … sorry.
Actually, there are some really good board makers in Peru. If you’re interested, shoot me a PM and I’ll put you in touch with one of them.
having (finally) done a hand layup epoxy board (with the blue RR) and having also found a vac pump at the local swap meet, I will try to vac bag one o’ them there futuristic veneer boards.
(BUT I also resolve to finish my still-to-be-glassed chambered balsa gun first of course, ha ha).
Rattle some cages....

Help those I can, learn from the rest. But that's the same old same old.
For something new....Set up the boat, with board stowage above the bunks. In a vaguely Jensen-ish way. And use it to get the hell out of Dodge and away from this silicon appendage more.
doc....
