I am trying to understand why people put 3 fins on longboards. Are’nt they made for short boards and “turning” a lot ? Don’t they cause drag ? Longboards are’nt made so much for this style of surfing. I know that sometimes thed don’t toe in the longboard side bites . Are they for more hold on steeper waves ? Could’nt you get the same result from using a longer single fin? Thanks…Aloha…
I cant say for sure why people like 3 fins on a long board. I have tried, and everytime is very stiff. Only real use seems to be in bigger waves, so you wont slip out on the face, but you can do just as good with a good single fin. I say go single.
Here on O’ahu, I personally like to mix it up with fins depending on the conditions. A lot of us do. So I don’t see any problems with 3 fins, 2+1 or singles on longboards. Everything works and has its limitations. Experiment and see what your surfing demands. Be open. Aloha.
Maholo to… you Guess it does depend on conditions . I live here in So. Fla. so it is more understandable. We don’t have big waves that often . The only time that I have used the 3 fins in my longboard was 1 time in Costa Rica… Thanks
