36" wide SUP board?

I know I’ve read some people saying they’ve seen 30" wide SUP boards but what about a 36"?

If I buy a 1’ wide piece of foam I could put 3 pieces together rather easily.

I was thinking 12’ x 36" x 3"?, 5"?

With it being that wide would it need to be the 5" I see people talking about?

Also, what about the shape. Would we be looking for a Roy type teardrop shape to help with turning? Or just a big old longboard shape?

And what about turning?

if you make it 12’ x 12’ , you can use it as a heavy artillery turntable …

if you got the real thing , no dropins then …

I’m serious though. It’s for going off by yourself to SUP. I don’t think anyone wants to SUP near other people, or at least near strangers.

You SUP because it’s fun and it allows you to go where others are not because the waves are not desirable to them.

I was just hoping for any of the other guys who have made one so far, if they had problems turning them, and if so, what they did to combat it.

I rode one this past weekend 12’ 4" and 34in wide and 5in thick so yeah you can do that

If you’re gonna use it to surf I would say those dimensions are FREAKIN HUGE!!! If turning is high on your list of priorities shorten it if you want that width. My 8’8" fish is less than 28" wide and although tricky, you can still stand up paddle it… At 36", maybe somewhere between 9’ and 10’? No more than 4" thick on any length at that width… If mega gliding is the priority then GO FOR IT at 12’! Can’t wait to see it whatever you decide… I’ll make a thread about my open ocean board that you can see some enormous dimensions… Even then its only 29" wide…

Not consistent with my recent experience at Hanalei Bay. Not only did they want to SUP near other people/strangers, they wanted to paddle into every (desireable) wave, from 50 yards outside of you.

add another 1’ amd make it 48’’ wide and 8’long

you can always cut it down

make it a winger

so the tail wont slide out on bigger waves
