3M Sander/Polisher

3M has a Sander/Polisher available as part of their collision repair products.  Has anyone seen or tryed one?  It is part no. 28391, 1000-3000 RPM, 11 amps, and weighs 7.9 lbs.  Looks like a nice product.

Always buy quality 3M products.

Hi Jay - Do you have a close up photo of the spec plate?

(Edit: wierd that link I originally posted now shows something different! … new link info answers my question about the variable speed trigger (yes it does)

Bud, yes it does...to the best of my reckolication.  Its pretty close to a knock off of big red.

Nice link page showing all the add on gadgets. Gotta love all that automotive stuff.

Cost more than "Big Red" too.  The Makita is still the best and the most for the money. Lighter with Soft start .  Just use one all day and you'll know why those two features are soo important. Milwaukee's still the standard though.

On behalf of all the 'anti-import' patriots.... the label please?   Country of manufacture????

A nice feature is the 3m anti-Vibration padding on the grip & handle.  Works well even when your hands are dripping wet from that nasty Acetone and MEPK combo.

Bumping this up.  I purchased one of these sanders and so far it is great!  I was able to find it for under $300 so it is in the price range of the Milwaukee.  I am a wimp so I like a lighter sander and was using a DeWalt DW849 but it had speed regulation problems.  The trigger/switch has the best control of the speed of any sander I have used.  PM me if you would like the name of the dealer I bought mine from.

regards, Dave

I needed that. thank you.

3M it's a good brand but so bloody expensive. For a underground shaper (1 or 2 boards / year) like me it's not worth to buy expensive tools (am I right or not?).
I just bought one today for 39.99€ = 51.44$ (the shop was on big sale).

Very nice price by the way.

If you want "swirl free" use the Porter Cable random orbital  on your final grit.  Good tool. Reasonably priced.  Can be bought with vacum attachment.

I my humble opinion...you are wrong.

Wise people who know say:  Poor people cat afford cheap tools..

Buying quality will last a lifetime, and continue to perform better when abused. When it comes to sanders unless you do a side by side comparison you can't really tell...Sanders have a built in torque and wobble problem, the better the bearings, motor, bushings, pinion gearing, trigger etc, etc,  the smoother the running.  The smoother the running the better the sanding surface when done.  A quality sander combo'd with a balanced sanding backing pad is a joy to operate....and your quality of work WILL improve drastically.

So if you only intend to make wobbly sanded surfboards once every 3 years..ok. But the sander is meant to be used on all sorts of stuff around the shop.  I use mine to buff out the car, boat, appliances, wood working..and of course surfamabords.   I expect my tools to out last me.

And this has nothing to do with the 3M sander....but as always: when in doubt, buy quality 3M products.
