And then there’s golf.
Really I don’t care anymore. Look at the rubbish cluster in the Pacific. Look at Fukushima still polluting the Earth. Look at the 7 BILLION people shitting and pissing all over the planet. I’m going to go surf on and make a toxic board for me and my friends. One day I’ll kill a tree and make a board out of it too. If one wants to be truly green then they’ll buy local, grow what they eat, kill their own meat and bodysurf naked.
Hi Paul,
Well, I have no idea how many surfboards and wetsuits are made each year or how much waste ends up in land fills, etc. But, the sunscreen numbers look like pure bullshit. 97 percent of Americans have oxybenzone in their blood? I havn’t been tested for that. Has anyone else? 6000 tons of sunscreen end up in the ocean? How did they measure that? It looks like pure bravo sierra extrapolation of data they really do not have. If one piece is so obviously bad, am I to believe the rest? This type of obsurdity is bad for the enviromental movement because of the loss of credibility when data IS good. Or,is this just a goofy advertisement by greensurfshop.com? What do you think, Paul? Mike
The issue no one but China seems to have adopted, the population went fron 6-7 billion in 12 years, the next phase will be will be 9 years to get to 8 billion.
We have run to the end of the petrolem, water is the biggest issue, who will produce the food for 12 billion, the world governments HAVE to address zero growth or we will eat each other.
Obama and the other world leaders don’t seem to have the balls to even suggest this as an immediate practice
But… how about all the modern warfare, heavy metals from explosives, all the petrolium products that were burned or went into the sea, the nuclear materials that were detonated in the atmosphere, the sea, ground level and below ground.
Every bit of polution counts, even if the surfing world is but a fly speck on the gnats ass
I like my Human Steaks medium well.
The line starts behind Hawaii with 3 active volcanoes and the official state broken road side glass being the green heineken bottle.

I think I found a new calling scaring people with advertising.
plus all those polyurethane and styrene lobbyists in Washington D.C.
Hi Mike…
My take on those numbers are that they are just that…numbers…and numbers can be presented and manipulated anyway to present a point…
Your analysis of the suncreen thing makes sense…
I just saw that jpg and though Swaylock’s to be the place to present it…
As for me, I’m striving to un-clutter and simplify…Few but better is better…
The quality of life we experience an enjoy would not be possible without petroleum and the products derived from or shipped by. Seeking a sustainable source of energy is wise. The best use of resources starts with you, not anyone else, lead by example, and not to self-promote. I am so tired of people hiding behind a facade of green, only to self-promote.
I agree with you guys who say that all the scare and hype detracts from any real message, but if the problem is global people need more than words to prove it. If the polar caps are melting and the sea levels actually rising...why isnt the tide any higher at my beach/ harbour/ river ? WHy doesnt the tide charts show any increase?
Apart from expert Vs expert, wheres the solid proof that the environment is falling apart and that its our fault?? Sure we could pick up our shit off the beach but are we to blame for global effects?
~5 Years ago Narrabeen beach was hit by storms and 20 or 30 metres of beachfront just got swept away, exposing houses and unit blocks to collapse. A marine expert was asked how many years it would be before the sand would be naturally replenished. He said "50",
"50 Thousand years... maybe".
With a timetable like that, who knows if its us or nature ?
Either way its a great scam for governments to rip more taxes out of us to fix a problem thats unfixable, how are we going to stop using petrol ? Stop manufacturing ? Stop burning coal for electricity? You cant build a solar powered steelworks. Maybe nuclear power IS the answer or maybe weve already gone over the precipice.
Hey Paul,
Fewer, but better sounds good to me. I admit I have a hard time getting rid of shit, though. I have a big pile of lumber under my shed that I’m sure I’ll need some day and I can’t seem to really get rid of all the crap in the garage that the rats are pissing on and using to make nest. I probably have too many boards and think I need to make two more. I’ve been thinking about a one board quiver lately. mike
Hey Ghettorat…
I mostly agree with you about what **you **said…
Please do not presume by that first posting, I agree or disagree with the content…It’s just a picture…
To be clear, I have never said my way of building boards is green…For go or bad, I have never worn that badge…
It would be a good thing if those still making conventional P/U P/E boards , would make them to last years instead of relying on them to break, so they get repeat orders.......it is a disgusting thing to do..........
Bingo!!! Especially the last paragraph!!!
Hey Paul what I said is not to be construed as an attack on you, albeit there has been multiple upon me. The point I am trying to make is there are so many guys out there that are capitalizing on the green thing only for profit, and ego. Take Al Gore and his light bill, what a crock of pooh, or Richard Branson -he wastes more resources in one of his private flights than we will in our lifetimes, yet they have the ability to promote their agenda, at our expense. Without the gains achieved from petrochemicals our life would be as Hobbes would say “nasty, brutish and short”. We all need to take a look at our personal economies and make changes, considering the wisdom of someone like Gifford Pinchot, because it will save us money, and help our environment, not by a governmental leviathan, which will only cost us dearly without the results intended, and only to enslave us that much more.
When compared to the threat of turning our planet into a steambath I think the threats to air quality and to water quality and quantity are a lot more proximate. I think they’re also more responsive to the changes mankind is currently capable of making. Dollar for dollar I think we can get more bang for our buck by working the available solutions for problems we can reduce than for problems we basically can’t.
Bah Humbug.......
I'm not a tree hugger. My car gets 30 mpg, I live 6.5 miles from work. My last three Gas/ Electric bills have been less than $65. We use very little water compared to our peers....we own our own home....I started collecting cans as a kid because scrap metal had a vaule.....Balance.....solar panels are made from chemicals......I love chemicals... and solar power.......
How many Leer Jets went to the last ECO Sumitt?.....Green...$$$
