thanks pepsi for the pic this is what i am looking for, my board is a flat bottom shaped from a 6’3H. i followed same rocker lines , what are the factors concerning the relationship between the board and the fins. Is this type of fin setup good? Am i overkilling it? what are the advantages? what are these fin setups meant for?
check out the shelter video to see donovan frankenrieter riding a campbell bros 5 fin bonzer.
The five fin Bonzer is intended to be used on boards with a very distinct bottom contour. Malcomb latest rendition is a very subtle single to moderate double concave with vee through the tail. It is very drivey yet pivots quickly as well. I find that it likes to be ridden with a heavy back foot. We just recently started making Red X bonzer side fins for anyone who is interested in their own rendition. Malcomb has given us a placement diagram. If anyone is interested e-mail me your fax number & I’ll send you a copy.
I just built myself a new mid range board that I set up as a 5 fin bonzer using the red-x fin system. In addition I cut and glued (5 minute epoxy) 2 red-x box’s together to give me 2 choices for rear fin location. The location for the rear set of side fins on a bonzer is very close to where one would place front fins for a tri fin. I now have a board that I can ride as a 5 fin ,thruster set up ,twin fin, modified c-5, etc. One of the other shapers I work with did the same set up on one of his boards and he rides his with the small bonzer side fins, then uses the standard twin fins with a small trailer fin in the rear box to stabilize it. I look at it like this,I could build 3 to 5 new boards or I can Build one as a test bed for new ideas and fin combos. sk
if anyone is looking for a bonzer they should check out the new bonzer egg that Rich Pavel and I just made. THIS THING IS A ROCKETSHIP!!! he should have one in his shop: The Green Room, Ocean Beach, San Diego. -steve
