5 years kid board opinions

…hello, to all

in all these years building boards, this is the first time that I ve to build one for a such small kid…so, I need opinions about possible shapes…

in the first I ll go with flat rocker, roundy nose (not a pin like one) and with 4 smallers wooden fins (floatation, etc), think that the kid will be use the board in the whitewater…

thanks

reverb

that’s worked well for my kids.

here’s one:

I think you are both on the right track with the wide nose.

Love the board in the photos Keith.

I remember when my daughter was that young. I (we) went through a few

boards til we got it right. It’s also a great way to hide how many boards you

have, from your wife.

Stability is the key. I recall when my daughter went from riding my longboard

to her own board. We went too small (5’5" X 19.25") and skatey, her ability suffered

and her confidence was shot.

Even if the board seems to big, it’s all about them being comfortable in the water.

…well , nice board, but too big in my opinion, for a 5 years old kid…

…a couple of months ago, I did a board for an 8 years kid (5 4 minifish), and for this particular kid was more than enough…

there was just a “microgrom” thread, I posted to it only yesterday. Search.

Pic there of a 3’11" board. But a little too small to be stable enough for a little kid.

Summarizing my earlier post, a wide, stable board with belly up front so as not to catch rail, glass on single fin (less fin to get hurt on) and if at all possible, soft. Kids will get hit, believe me.

yup, it was more to show the style than the exact dimensions; note that the board has Protek safety fins, which I highly recommend for this purpose. Nothing wrong with a single fin but I prefer multiple smaller fins to a single, as kids seem to want to drive the board right up onto the beach, and/or through very shallow water…

good point. hadn’t thought about that.

…thanks for the responses…

…Im between a miniegg and a kind of kneeboard type of shapes…around 5 ft or less

…Honolulu, I ll check that thread

I just shaped nearly the exact same board… numbers are pretty much the same (mine’s a little thinner, 'cause it’s EPS), but I’m making this one a single fin.

What kind of bottom did you go with? I’m doing flat to vee… Did you do concaves with the thruster set-up?

well dont do this but i learned on a5’10" rocket fish last summer it took 2 weeks to finaly go down the line and pump ok but i wouldn’t do that for her cuz i have realy good balince i just couldn’t get up but i skateboard about every day and snow board
