I think I’m going to try and shape my next board and i was wondering where I could find a 5’5" blank so I can shape a thick and wide egg with a 2+1 fin setup. The lowest clark foam goes is 5’9" and its not really the shape im looking for.
Nope! I use a lot of 5’9R’s for my grom shapes …It is much too thin for what you want. Look through the blanks on the foam EZ web site and see if your shape could “emerge” from one of the larger ones. I also use the 6’8H blanks a lot lately and this is a nice thick blank with good natural rocker. Also check out the Clark catalog. I print out the blanks I like and keep them in a file for reference. Will be getting some 68H’s ultralight tomorrow! My board is living inside of one of them! Krokus
What kind of blank do you think i should use? I’m not planning wanting a lot of rocker. I don’t really have a problem cutting the nose off either. I’m 5’9" and 135 lbs.
Hey You didn’t state thickness of your proposed fish. For something around 3.25, try the venerable 7’11". Ya, cut a foot and a half off the nose, and 10" off the tail, for something that floats Warran Sapp.
I want the thickness to be 2&3/4 inches to 3 inches. Do you think the 6’2" C 3/16 Bass Superblue would work? Its on EZFoam. Thanks
Hey When you skin and clean a blank, you lose about 3/32" off the top and the same off the bottom. Account for that.
thanks
I just shaped a 5’4" out of the 6’2" C. Not bad. It came out 2 9/16" thick. Wish the blank was thicker. If you’re hoping for 2 3/4 - 3" of thickness, skin the blank with a real sharp hand plane. The 6’7" is a good blank. Pull back from the nose an inch or two to get your nose width. The 6’9’ A will give you a lot of breathing room.
good idea
