6'0 mini Simmons (first board)

Shaping my first board. Wanna do a 6’ mini simmons. Got a 6’2" US blank. Anybody have any detailed advice about shaping it. Kind of lost were to start. Any dimensions, templates, or any other advice would be greatly appreciated. Should I do a hull and s deck on this first board or will this get to be overwhelming on the first one.

“Kind of  lost where to start.”

Start with a nice clean template, no flat spots or dips, on a piece of door skin.  Check the archives on how to make a template.  Archives for dimensions, too.  Mike

check to see what you’ll get outta the blank firstly…s- deck and hull on first board, I wouldnt, keep it super simple imo…

head over to blendingcurves.com, print out a template, spray adhesive the grid sections onto some wood and youll get a clean template. On my first board i wrote up a plan of steps and stuck it up on my shed to follow. Just go basic flat bottom, flat deck and work on getting nice rails, plan shape and a clean rocker.

Those 6’2" blanks are narrow in the nose and tail so you may have a hard time getting the standard mini outline so don’t try a big wide round nose, you may need to give the nose a point like in a fish and keep the width around 22". Knowing your size and weight would help in suggesting measurments. I’m 6’4" 205lbs and I ride a 6’1"x22-5/8"x2-7/8" Here is a shot for template idea. This is a fish nose and Mini tail. Hull nose is easy to shape, flat through the middle, edge in the tail will give you an s-rail, and a simple full concave between the fins. And if you want a board that will handle a wider range of wave conditions make it a quad.
