60'sPop-outs

Came accross two real clean 60’s pop-outs. “Crest” is one and the other is “Royal Hawaiian” Does anyone know any history or info on these two names. Any help would be greatful. Thank you …

Built in the '60’s and sold at department stores. I remember them but don’t know much more than that.

…Do they have the fake wood tape stringers? …Back in the mid/late 60s I owned a Shell gas station popout, what a heavy, rockerless toad!!!Herb

I remember going the the 60’s PayLess equivalent in my hometown and gazing at the Toes Over (was that the name?), Hang Ten, and Tiki popouts. My dad gave me a choice between an El Toro pram or a surfboard (big cost difference). I eventually got a three-stringered Gordon and Smith bought at the water-ski store down the road. That was in 1965.

Check with Cleanlines they could have been made at Glass Research in Florida, I say that for two reasons 1)they built about a million different labels 2) there sure was a lot of them floating around here back then. Greg was right department stores sold them for 139.00 decked out with resin color panels and wood fin and tailblocks. Fattest, rounded rails you have ever seen.

I did get the pop-outs through Cleanlines. Roger and I have the S.C. and Ga. areas covered looking for old boards. These two boards showed up at Rogers shop/factory and we both were stumped checking them out on the racks… I looked in my old mid-60’s mags and had no luck finding an ad with these two labels, Crest and Royal Hawaiian. Someone may know…I emailed a couple other collectors I know, who may know about these two boards, but had no response. Thanks for all your input and suggestions… Aloha

Roger Hinds of Country Surfboards will know about the Royal Hawaiian boards, and probably the Crest. His factory is in Westminster California. His e-mail address is Sluggo
