I am making my little brother a board, he is about 5’7" and about 140 pounds. He just got into surfing and he has been using my boards, but he wants his own now. I tried to convince him to go for a funboard or longboard for his first board but he is stuck on that whole kelly slater thing. So i convinced him to go with a big fish, figuring it would be easier to learn on, and once he got better it would go with him. I templated and roughed out the board last nite and came out with with a 21 7/8" wide, 16.5" nose, 17" tail, and widepoint 4.5’ ahead of center. I was gonna make it a little thinner than my other fishes i made so he can duckdive the thing, plus he doesnt weigh that much. I am used to making smaller fishes and i just tried to adjust my templates so it would work. I am going to give him a FCS twin fin and i was going to go with 6 oz. bottom, 6+4 top. Let me know what you guys think, board looks nice, just not used to the length.
First, your little bro is stoked, because he has such a great big bro; making him a board is a huge statement.
He will fondly remember it forever and he will learn to surf.
Dimensions sound good, maybe, maybe shift the wide point a little aft like 2 inches or so.
Glass ons are good if he will be running into the shallow sand repeatedly; read that as durable.
True for the tail tips too.
What bottom contour are you planning?
Good Luck!
Sounds cool ,That whole share your stoke thing!
I love fin systems but you might want to consider what Plus One says about glass on fins.
Save some cash and glass them on yourself. When little bro gets good cut off the glass-ons and install a fin system twin, quad or twinzer…
Have fun
