Hey all,
Any advice as to fin placement on the above board. Ideally I’d like it to be a 2 + 1, in that case how far off the rear would you place a glassed on Single fin?
Cheers

hi Stevo !
…do you have a photo of the board in question ?
With a 2+1 setup , I use the thruster equivalent positions …3-3 1/2 up [back fin trailing base edge] , side fins 10 1/2 - 11 1/2 " up .
Would you consider using boxes all round , instead , so you can move all THREE fins ?

Yeah, that Aussie bloke is right!!
Need pic. Or at least dimensions.
Fat Albert might need different placement than mini guns, eh?
Depending on whether the hugs’n buys Ice Cream for desert, I generally weigh in it around 77-78 kilos (170p).
The board make-up is 6’3"-19"-2 1/2". The nose/tail dimensions are pretty standard for a shortboard.
I have thought to use boxes for the other fins, as Chip mentions in previous posts, it allows for great variety. Single/2 + 1/tri. Probably not the sort of board that would work with a twinny stabiliser setup though.
Only problem here is, I’ve not done boxes before, and have had all sorts of trouble with different plug brands, and don’t want to see the box come tearing out. So yeah Chip, I would use boxes all round, but they’d be going into holes bogged with Q-Cell and filler. Does that make a difference?

Width of tail most important, next to tail shape.
Boxes are the easiest install jobs…just rout hole, pour some resin in, drop one layer of cloth, push down with plug or box, fill sides later.
Without measurements Lee, there is a medium amount of room back there. She’s a Rounded Pin.
Actually, based on your advice, if boxes are that easy I’m going with one big and two small…and work with Chips standard Tri setup…
So “Lam” resin to wet cloth, push in box and fill with pigment later?
Further to that, my girl had a good question. With boxes, is there any sort of drag caused by the large gap in them?

One more thing, wipe down box with Acetone or any other trick?
stevo
We’d sand the box with 50 around all 5 sides.
Gap, no biggie. Rainbow used to make a red plug, cut to fit. Made absolutely no difference, even at windsurfer’s 40mph speeds.

hiya Stevo !
sorry for the delay …I just got onto this thread again .
LeeDD has answered all your questions nicely…thanks Lee !
Just one thing I mentioned to ‘Luke’ , regarding our Aussie finboxes …
when you buy the smaller side boxes , just make sure you get the 8" , not the 7" , if using “multifins” boxes, because the 7" long boxes are a different depth than the 8" . I discovered this the hard way when making my 6’5 "benzer bottom " p.o.c. board…
ben
…just compare the depth of the box alongside the 10" box , if your supplier has a variety of length boxes.
