6'6 egg design. I need you opinion

Hi,

Thanks to the extraordinary motivation that produces the habitual reading to me of these forums (and the excellent results that you obtain in your works), i have seted out the beginning of my #2 project. It was thinking about an 6’6 egg (the measures in the attached file - APS3000 brd file too)… the board will be used in beach breaks of the Basque Country with small conditions (about 0.5 meters → is there a thread about the different wave measurement systems?).

What do you think about the design? Will work? My intention is to use a sandwich of EPS#1+BALSA. I’m 5’11 and 165 lb.

Thanks for your attention.

Hey sUgOi, Not sure about the waves in your neck of the woods but the board looks like a wave catching machine, almost a double ender. If your waves are regularly mushy as they are here in Corpus, that fat tail will work great. Let us know how it goes.

What beachbreak, to be more precise? There is some difference between Hendaye at 0.50 M and Les Cavaliers at the same size. Anyway, your design seems to be quite “all-around” and should perform OK in small to medium-size waves.

Overall, I like the planshape… I did a scaled down Takayama Egg this past fall and it reminded me somewhat of that.

The only thing I’d change would be the thickness along the rails. If you’re 160 lbs, that’s a lot of volume out on the rail. I’d thin the rails a bit, and make them a little more eggy… not so hard edge underneath, except in the tail. But that’s just my personal preference.

Single fin, I’m assuming? Flat to vee?

The outline and rocker look nice to me.

If the wide point is just forward of center the board will give you a little more down line speed. I’d put a foil in it so the thickest part of the board is just a little ahead of the wide point but that’s me, not you. Board thickness of around 2.75+ The rounder you make the rails in the middle of the board the better the board will lay over into the face of the wave and hold it’s line. I tend to favor this type of rail line for an egg. Try and keep some thickness in the tail without getting those boxy rails you have in the drawing now. A little more dome in the deck will provide a nicer rail line aft.

How will you do the bottom contour and what fins will you surf?

Mahalo, Rich

Thanks to all for your opinions.

Halcon: The board will fit a single fin (homemade ply fin, sure). Not decided the fin design yet. I thank for any idea.

NJ_Sufer: Bottom contour probably, if i am able to make it, flat to vee.

Balsa: Hendaia is one of my favorites when other spots are really big. Probably you have surfed Sopelana, Zarautz, Donosti and others… my most visited spots and where this board will work (would like to visit Gethary with 1m, i have very good references from it).

About the sandwich: 3mm balsa for deck & bottom (will 2 mm work ok?), 3 x 4mm balsa rails. 4 oz between the balsa and EPS and ¿6 oz? in the outside lamination (1 layer in the bottom and 2 layers in deck)… heavy board? Of course, epoxy (Resoltech 1070S). I am a bit confused about rails technique, and more after reading all swaylocks threads about this… i wish to do a good work.

Greetings.

Excuse my poor english.

Balsa: euskalduna?

YOu would be well advised to consult with you countryman, Coque. He’s very knowledgable about board configuration and what will serve your egg shape best.
