7' Funshape Fin Set Up?

Can anyone give some insight on good placement of 2-1 set up on this board?

I’m thinking about using a generic FCS LB side fin set but not sure about the center fin shape or size or size of fin box. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I’ll take a stab at, but I’m NO pro. The shape is nice, but in my opinion it should be either the typical tri-fin set up or a single fin, not the 2+1 you are thinking about. Anybody else want to chime in ???

Oops I forgot to add some dimensions. This is where I placed them on a 8’0" mini I just finished, and it works better than I whought it was.

The fin box was placed at 5" from the tail and the sidebites were place 13.5" from the tail with the trailing edge 1.125 from the rail… I used ProBox fin boxes with the 6 degree inserts.

2+1 would give you the best of both worlds–single for the small days, sidebites for the steeper stuff. I’d go with a 10.5" box about 4.5 to 5" off the tail. A 7" or 7.5" cutaway would be a solid choice.

Side fins kinda depend on what else the board has going on–a good place to start might be 14" off the tail if it’s a standard rocker/tail width/bottom contour. More rocker and you can move the fins back. Same with tail width or if the board has a lot of V or if the board is for someone with a heavy back foot. In my experience, beginners tend to plant themselves in the middle of a board this size and try to turn from there, though, so fins further (farther?) forward would help them out, especially if the rider is lighter or of the female persuasion.

Hope this helps.
