72 Bonzer

Hi all,

This is my first post so hello nice to meet you and thanks for the tons of good stuff posted before me.

Today was a lucky day for me. I got this board for $25. I hope that someone could tell me something about it and the shaper/maker. Chipfish??

Now I’m assuming that this is a 1972 year board and if I were to believe www.surfresearch.com.au/aemail.html which says the bonzer was invented in 1973 that would mean that I now own the worlds first bonzer.

welcome sir wal ! [you didn’t change your name either …where’s the funky avatar ??]

well…25 dollars ?? I’m jealous …

Paul Nielson rides one in the 1974 movie “on any morning” , at Burleigh Heads …check it out !!

enjoy ...please let me know how it rides ...and , if you check out the Campbell Bros . website

www.bonzer5.com ,

you will see that THEY have, in fact, been making bonzers since 1970 …their teenage years !! [sorry for the reality check, wal !!]

 okay, catchya buddy !

   ben

p.s. … Are you still working with aussies in the footy / pie factory , by the way ??

Thanks for the info Chip! Yeah you really burst my bubble but that’s ok. I’ve got to patch it up a bit before I ride it. I’ll let you know.

No, I retired from the footie/pie factory. I put on too much weight. Damn VBs and meat pies. I’ve taken my winnings and settled in Hawaii.

Avatar is back up too. This forum’s layout is different to any other forum that I’ve been on (not a bad thing at all).

here’s a couple of shots from that movie …sorry it’s a bit far away …the d.v.d. jammed before I got to the footage of Paul Nielson showing off his bonzer at decent Burleigh . (bummer , eh ?)

Anyway , these shots are of one ‘Gary Birdsall’ [an American?] in NewZealand , c.1973…

ben

p.s. - Ben , have you found a good board restorer in Hawaii yet , for that board ?

No not yet. I wonder if anyone here ,on Oahu, would be able to do it or point me in the right direction. Thanks for the screenshots, Chip.

Thanks to Luke for the dvd! Cheers mate!

well done Josh …you got it working eh ?

there’s an even better shot earlier of the board , as Paul walks down the path [?to burleigh?] , and turns side on , where you get to see the runners , back fin , and the concaves…

cheers !

ben
