i have one machined 7’3" that’s too lopsided for my use. It could easily be retemplated and finished off into something useful. I just don’t have the time to do it myself. It’s yours if you want it. pick up only in santa cruz.
PM me for details.

i am building this board for my brother who has been out of the water for a few years…
before he stopped surfing, i had borrowed a board of his and while surfing
some punchy beach-break, i snapped 6" of the nose off…
he just started getting back in the water recently and he wanted me to make
him a board to repay him for the board that i had broken. cool.
the board i broke was a 5’10" shortboard but, for my brother, that was about
30 pounds ago. i wanted to build him a board that would paddle easy, plane quickly,
be very versatile, be manuverable, and have lots of fin options so he could figure out what he liked.
i used the Lis Fish template that i made from the Surfboard Design and Construction book
to re-template the nose. i pulled it in a little more than the original fish to fit into the blank.
EDIT here’s another of the nose after templating…

i wanted to net about a 6’6" and needed to cut about 9" off of the tail to do so
but i didn’t want to just leave a huge square tail… something about that just
didn’t seem right so, i did my best at a diamond tail…

then, i re-foiled the nose and tail, and did my best to make the rails match
with the new outline…
this board is currently spackled, sprayed (my first color job) and ready to be
glassed tomorrow… i have not taken any recent photos but will tomorrow.
this will be my second board built and i’m really excited about how it’s looking.
it looks like it’s going to be a fun board…
i ordered a 10 1/2" FU box and quad Proboxes for it. i’d like my brother to be able
to ride it as a single, twin, thruster, quad, or 5 finner… any help with the placement?
i was thinking 3-4 inches off the tail for the center box and ??? for the quad boxes.
suggestions welcome. thanks
One mans trash is another man’s stash!
Great project…
Thinking out loud here…I would set up the center box placement first and work the side fins around it…of course I’m not a quad guy… so… you might want to set up the quad first…
Have fun

yah, thanks Ray! i just hope my brother is stoked…
thanks for your thoughts on the fin placement… i’m still trying to work that one out.
unfortunately, i wasn’t able to glass today (weather issues) but hope to glass this week.
here’s some shots of the final product before glassing with the spray job…
here’s one of the final rocker and foil… i’m a total hack scraper and the depth adjustment
feature on the Clark Hitachi planer really helped me to do my best to smooth out the foil…
at least i was happy with it…
here’s a shot of the spray job… super cheapo and simple… a closer look and you can see the
paint outlining the beads in the EPS… i think that’s because i oversanded the spackle in some
areas…
here’s one of the bottom from the nose… there’s a little vee in the tail…
