8.9 in Japan

EWA BEACH (HawaiiNewsNow) – A Tsunami Watch
has been issued for the state of Hawaii following an 8.9
magnitude earthquake off the east coast of Honshu, Japan.

Scientists at the Pacific Tsunami Warning
Center in Ewa Beach said that based on available data, a tsunami may
have been generated by the quake. They said the earliest that tsunami
waves could reach Hawaii would be at 2:59 a.m. Friday.

Prayers are with you. Hope it’s a false alarm.

Unfortunately, looks like it’s not… Ten meters waves hit the north coast of japan, according to news here. Tsunami alert for the whole Pacific. Prayers from here, too.

Civil Defense sirens went off at 10:00, and 11:00 over here. First waves are supposed to get here at 3:00. Evacuation for coastal areas tonite for sure. I haven't heard the sirens in the dark since Iniki morning, 5:00 a.m. Good luck everyone. Aloha...RH

8.9 is a BIG one.  Don’t take chances, Ambrose (or anyone).  TV footage from Japan is pretty ugly, major flooding, fires, etc. Get the hell uphill!

west coast USA on tsunami alert, first waves predicted here around 8am according to the news.

four minutes

I’m goin up stairs.

holy cow.  20 foot surge in Japan, at least 60 dead…

off to work - markets are a mess because of the nikkei

Having been there (Chiba) last year, I can see how bad this thing is going to be…

Low lying countryside with some very antiquated structures and enough loose things lying around to cause damage in a tsunami…

Long term DEVASTATION

But the Japanese have been through this before and if anyone can overcome something like this, it’s them…

My heart goes out to them…

Stay safe everyone, our thoughts and hearts are with you.

Searching for news on-line it seems that our friends in Hawaii have been spared the worst of it.

I hope that's true.

Prayers for the victims in Japan and best wishes for the folks on our west coast who still don't know what to expect.

Just to keep things tidy, please post your comments in this thread.

Over here on the west coast of Vancouver island and our multimillion dollar warning system didn’t even do anything not even a peep out of our Tsunami radios only found out when the school phoned and said classes were cancled…

Stay safe everyone

Ambrose is in the perfect location. He can be the first to loot Foodland and Safeway! Get all the good things and get them home fast!!  How come it is that when there is a warning posted for tsunami or what ever, the first thing people do is run off to the nearest shoping center and by Ice ! What the heck you need ice for anyway? Maybe to keep the beer cool for a couple hours ? In a few hours the ice melts and you got nothing. Heck, What I would do is stock pile dog food ! Why dog food ? Well it's cheep and last a long time ! No I wouldn't wast it on the dog ! First you eat the dog and save the dog food for the long hall ! Have you ever tasted dog food? Some of it  is really good ! especialy the puppy chow !!!

Bloody hell, mother nature has been very angry lately. Hope everyone in affected areas are ok.
