Bruce, you got it now? I might have led you astray by saying northern end of your county, it might be SLO. Not sure where the northern line is. I know where the southern end is, but that's another secret spot, large haha....
No, you got me all screwed up, I have a mental block with “Mammoth” keeps coming up from my skiing days er daze, uh purple haze… ah, whatever.
Another clue pleeeeeze! I know it ain’t Pico Creek, St Ann’s, Willow or Fuller’s, but it’s got a left. Of course Sand Dollar has left right and straight… south of there? West of there? Sure as hell can’t be east???
I saw this back up and figured you'd posted some cool board pics. Nooooo, we're still playing ''Stump the Santa Barbarian''.
Head north and then west (by car for this one) from your house, over hill and dale, and then look for spiders..... You don't have to name the spot when you get it, might be better that way. You're going to kick yourself 'cause this one wasn't really that hard.
Darn it, mystoman, we're supposed to make Bruce think of it. Actually you access the spot through Jalama, but it has it's own name and is quite different from the beachbreak.
Obviously you know what you're talking about, though. Most people think SoCal ends at Ventura county line and the area we're talking about is ''northern'' Cal to them.
Had the board out on a spot in the
NW last weekend sorry no photos, was on my own for a day trip and it the fog
was tick as soup. It was busy, my second session and had to drive home so only
got two good waves but they were fun, made the 3 hour drive home bearable.
Looking like were going
to get pounded this weekend but there’s a few spots down south that might be
worth a look how does 18ft at 18 seconds with strong on / cross shore winds sound or
possibly something in the NW will be bigger off shore and get wrap a round
swell. It’s all down to finding a lull in the wind or a quite sheltered spot
out of the wind but they exist here still.
Spacehopper, I found some great waves back in '98 on the west side of Eire. Lahinch was one of the spots with all those lefts empty and everyone surfing in the middle in front of town. Water was like here with the gulfstream. The other stand out was near Doolin (hope I’m not pimping these spots). That right out by the rock was excellent! And at higher tide the peaks inside that little bay with the tower overlooking was a total playground…and no one out except a fisherman and his son came out in their Curragh to see what was going on. It’s still one of the prettiest places I’ve been, including Hawaii. Lahinch was a good spot to wire the swtichfoot. I could live there easily. My mother is from Clifden. Slainte`
Things have moved on
a bit since then, surfing has gotten very popular, the beaches are now much
busier but it's still easy to find somewhere quite with just a few friends if
you know where to look. Don't get down to Lahinch that much, tend to go to the
NW, Sligo,Mayo direction.
Then there's the tow
surfing event that was heled at Mullaghmore head in Donegal this year, comp run
by locals surfers with some backing from Bilabong and an energy drinks company.
Done the way it should be - by the local surfer. They got it right with near
perfect conditions. http://magicseaweed.com/photoLab/viewPhoto.php?photoId=219935
Now the bad news,
the reef you surfed at Doolin by the rock "Doolin Point" will probably be gone
by this time next year! They are planning to expand the pier there and will be
dredging the area. If the reef isn't damage then reflections off the pier and
changes in currents will probably have an effect. Also and more importantly a
wave every bit a good a pipe line will be effect to. Crab Island, it will be
effected by reflections off the pier and won't break the same. Crazy isn't
it!
Love the wave down
form it in the bay not to fond of the point got my ass handed to me there last
summer, bounced off the reef twice.
80's shapes rock, especially for the head high and under waves we get here a lot. Almost all the ones i see here for sale ( when they come up, and i did have 2 ) are all 5'7'' or so. If i could get the template of a 6'0, i'd be laughing i think!
