today…
the reason I posted this is also that
the waveset fin box is broken …
any hints on fixing the box ?
If not ,
fortunately , there IS a guy here in vicco who makes replica W.A.V.E. SET boxes and fins , so this will be plan A or B
although the board is G and S Sydney Australia , would I be right in saying that waveset was an american box / system [?possibly tom morey, or not ??]
cheers
ben
WAVESET was an offshoot of the Morey Pope Company of Ventura, California
Photos of the damage would help.
can’t remember if I read it here , but maybe the ‘tracker’ was a square tailed version , similar to the pintailed 'pocket rocket’of the time [ ? in hawaii ? / brewer designs] ?
by the way … the finbox has since been removed , and due to my reticence to make a new fin , plan B is to install a multifins box , and a 'normal’finbox fin , as the board is 'mainly 'going to be ridden in head high and under surf , I’ve been told …
photos …
foil / rocker shots …

… resin pinlines …
[ the legrope plug was added much later , obviously ]
Q :
it would be interesting [ to me , anyway ] to know who shaped this , and what year ?
cheers
Ben
Is there actually a lam on it that identifies it as a “Tracker”?
I see only the G and S lam in your pics.
hiya Sammy !
I guess that’s what I’m asking you older folk here [ as I was only around 8 years old in this era , 1969’ish’ ] …
…WAS it the square tail , the outline , the rails , the belly bottom , that made it be called a ’ Tracker’, in america , as well as in australia ?
did / do you have a similar board from this era , Sammy ?
… does anyone ELSE , too ??
cheers !
ben
What I’m asking is how you came to consider it a Tracker? Did someone refer to it as such? If there’s no lam with that model name, then what made you arrive at this conclusion?
No, I never had one.
mctavish makes an identical model , nowadays
[ I’m pretty sure the original got mentioned in 'stoked ', McTavish’s autobiography . The bit when he makes his Cali trip , and sees and surfs rincon …I have ordered that book again , from my local library , so I can re-read that bit … he caught up with tom morey then , from memory … 1968ish ?]

ANYONE have a G and S tracker from america , complete with logo stating it [to appease sam] ?
the difference in designation between continents may cause problems with interminalnet people sometimes , I suppose ? [ the word ‘fanny’, being a classic example ! ]
… I guess that is part of the reason why "google " was invented , eh ?
…to be continued …
cheers !
ben
And his model with the same name back in the late 60s was made by Morey Pope in the USA.
To the best of my knowledge, G and S never made a model called the “Tracker” in the USA.
The Morey Pope McTavish Tracker is the only one I can recall seeing, ever, anywhere.
Update !
As earlier requested , here are some photos of the [ 'ex ’ ] box …
The new owner has decided on the solution pictured .
He will be installing a 10 " fins unlimited box , all going well.
It should be getting surfed before he heads north …
[ to be continued …]
Okay , the 10" finbox has now been installed…
Sanding and ding repairs to follow.
Next … hopefully … there 'may ’ be some offshore winds in the next week or two , for the launching ?
In the meantime , he has picked up his latest custom … an orange tinted 7’ single fin
The M-P version that Mattwho posted is what I have seen. I bought one like that used at the old Greg Liddle shop in Tarzana for my younger brother.
It wasn’t until computers became widely available that I saw the more pointy version from Australia.
Zackoopman has posted a couple nice ones like that. (Australian version)
thanks , John !
do you have a few shots of that board , please ?
meanwhile , the box has been sanded down now …
then , he will fix the dings … sanding job ahead …
That is one nice board IMO- template, foil… it just looks like it’d go good. I’m as curious as to who shaped it as you are, Chip.
Also looks to be in great shape. gotta wonder about the journey it’s made.
Hope you can get a picture of it when it’s all done (that minute bit of grungy wax rankles… OCD is no fun, I tell ya)!
thanks Warty !
I think it was hidden under great wads of wax for about thirty years , pre board-bags… luckily , out of the plentiful rain that we get here …
well, it got launched last week
I had a heavy 'flu still, and it was raining , so I wasn’t there.
The report was that it "paddled really well, glided through sections … and even turned , reasonably well " ! …
Bear in mind …
… it was a 59yo surfing it , so it’s not like he was airdropping into teahupoo or anything [ that’s not exactly the board that the average guy would want for that scenario , anyway :)
It was apparently " head high slightly full beachbreaks " , so probably pretty ideal for a test ride … horses for courses …
