Hi guys ! 2 boards from the early 80’s, i guess. Here we go :
a 6’2" Nuuhiwa twin with a beautiful blue spray. 4 channels, double wings and swallow. Really thick rails and flat deck. No measurements on it, except : “mick 681”. No major dings, just some soft spots on the rails. I’m not going to do anything on it, will be a great wall hanger.
a 5’7" Natural Art twin, 4 channels, single wing and swallow. Flat deck, not fat rails (…). No measurements on it, except : RP 571227. This board need some love, as you can see the bottom end is in bad shape. I really love this board, nice outline, bottom, … and what a spray with the flashy laminates on top. So i decided to remove all these bad dings, really brownish and most important: reshape the swallow tail, some big soft spots on the deck, foot prints… a couple hours of intensive work ahead !
Have you some ideas, infos about these boards ? I guess RP = Rich Price, but Mick who ? Who did the art job ? How old are they exactly ? Have you a secret tip to repair the soft spots on the deck ?
i can't tell you much about the nat. art board.............i believe it was a east coaster board.
was nat. art greg loher's company ? don't know...........but someone here knows and will chime in.
as far as the nuuhiwa, chuck dent had the contract then, and it could have been shaped by a host of shapers..........most likely one of the hawk brothers.
it looks to be a 1979-81' or as late as 82',after that is was all about the tri-fin,and other configurations of fin set-ups like quads.
Could have been shaped by my friend Chris Hawk truly tragic his death at such a young age, but I never knew Fig shaped, yet I know he’s ridden quite a few from me. I should have asked him when I called him on his cell phone today after the contest to find out what he knows about a Gordie memorial. I have great memories of all those guys. And since Fig is the only one living ask him who he was with during the hurricane in Baja, if you really need to know. The estuary was all-time, but we almost didn’t make it out of the airport. He was scared, and rightfully so.
