8'6" Swallowtail

Just picked up my 8’6" x 22 1/2" x 14" swallowtail, kind of a speed shape. It has the 2+1 fin setup. I’ve got a 9" Greenough 4c that I’m going to try as a single fin. I was thinking of a True ames Lflex or Skip Frye fin to use with the sidebites. Do you these work with that setup? Or a cutaway? I was thinking in the 7 in range. Also, this will be mostly for smallish to medium size waves. Thanks as always for info

Small waves depends on steepness and speed.

If it’s knee high and rolling slow, a single well forwards 7"er can be close to overkill, but when it’s pitching out thigh high, you’ll need that 7"er plus both side fins, or a single 8.5’ er.

Thanks for the reply. I’m going to try a True ames 7.25 in Skip Frye with the sidebites. Let you know how it works! Thanks

Well, I got an 8.5" True Ames L-flex for my 8’6" swallowtail. It’s got the small sidebites. Although I have not got it out in real good surf, the board does seem real fast with the fins. Real easy rail to rail also. I don’t know if the L-flex is meant to be paired with the sidebites but it seems to work. I also got a 7.5" FU cutaway fin I’m going to try also. Hopefully good surf is on the way! Thanks
