Anybody got any advice for the shape of this 8ft x 21 1/4" wooden board. I’m thinking that the tail looks a little wide and could maybe do with tapering a bit more than it does. It’s a single fin and will be used in small stuff on the south UK coast
Also the rails turned out a little bit pinched, is this something I should worry about and is there anything I can do about it anyway without taking more than 1/2" off the width? The rails are chambered then solid on the two outer strips so I can reshape them a bit.
I’d like to get some input from you lot who know what you’re doing before I make all the mistakes permanent by glassing it.
In terms of tweaking the shape, I suggest do nothing other than fine tuning. I’m not sure how much wood you still have to work with in the rails and tail, but in terms of the overall shape it will work the way it is… if you feel the rails are too sharp, run the sandpaper over them a few times… but other than that, glass it, ride it and enjoy the stoke. The stoke will not be any different no matter what you do to it!
Cheers Paul, that board is lush mate. I think that’s the shape I’ll be aiming at for my next build.
I think I’m going to draw out some new lines on templates and see what fits, rather than just going at it with the belt sander. I do want the tail pulled in a little, I’ll leave the nose nice and wide though cos there’s virtually no room for adjustments up there.
