Just finished this one, gonna take a final peek tomorrow than off it goes for a lime green resin tint job. I like shaping all the roll and contours of these things.

Ahh, ACE, you got more eyes on your work than you know. Lots of us bigger guys learning visually, not necessarily verbally. Your wings & stings, sharp & dishy concaves, and little fishy tails haven’t gone unnoticed. Cheers
Love your work ACE, working on finishing one very similar for myself. I can really appreciate the comments on your shaping…I’ve only been into this for 5-6 years and just figured alot out for myself…basically I’ll use whatever moves the foam…I’m quite sure that most would cringe at how I do some things…but just a hobby that makes me very happy! Anyway very nice as always!
I like the rolled bottom, infact the whole board.
When can you get some glassing action picks up?
Ill stay tuned for this one!
Ace, I’m assuming that with that tail, this is something you make one turn then get up on the nose. Am I wrong?

You are right. Thats what the customer wants…

So will I. Look carefully on my walls and you will find a cheese grater. That sits there waiting for the next time a certain “legend” comes back into my shaping room grumbling " cheese grater cheese grater where is the cheese grater?"
I had to look real hard but I found the cheese grater! I love the hand drill too!! Man I bet that comes in handy! I think I’ll be on the lookout for one of those! I freaking hate using a power drill on my boards!
Thanks Ace. I have not seen a board with a tail like that before. The shape is really nice, but very different from what I’m used to seeing.

Hmmmm makes me wonder how old you guys are ? This is just a “throw back” board. Nothing special nothing new. I guess this is one of those “dying art” type of boards.
I’ll be 54 next week. I think the thing is that here in Hawaii where I live the nose rider style boards disappeared before I got to see one up close. I never did get to Waikiki til the 70’s, and it was all modern short board for us kids.
We never ride boards with a tail like that here. The closest I’ve seen is more rounded, like 50/50 rails. When I saw that board I thought the tail was upside down.
I bet it’s a heck of a nose rider, but we don’t have lots of places where you get that kind of wave, just down in Waikiki.
I had new one when they were the hot item in 1966. They are definitely a small wave one trick pony. David Nuuhiwa kind made a living on em. I shaped some for Eaton, Bing and worked with Greg Noll for awhile plus had Carl Ekstrom walking by my shaping room every 15mins. spouting off about how to do em. So I guess I had some interesting influences.
