9'4" Epoxy Noserider

Finished a 9’4 epoxy board the other night.

double 10oz deck, double 6oz bottom…Fiberglass Hawaii 2:1 Epoxy. Finish coat done with epoxy as well, no PE hotcoats or anything tricky.

wetsanded to 500, polished with #2, then rubbed with acrylic floor sealer, buffed that out, then compunded with #2 again, worked great for shining the epoxy out!

US Blanks foam…blue deck and rails, clear bottom…couldnt help but pinline it!

This is my second epoxy board, im finding it very user friendly, the only setback is the wait between sanding, but its really not much long than a regular PE resin…strained the sanding agent out really well and didnt get many bumps or specks of wax…overall a great working experience!

The upright photo is the new owner…the hat-headed one is me!

Very Nice! Could you be more specific about how you used the floor sealer? It sounds like you shaved some time off the normal wetsand to 1500 epoxy polishing schedule, and sealed any pinholes in the gloss coat along the way.

Looks like ultra-clean work, especially pinlines! How were they done? Congrats, that’s a great board.

thanks guys!

the floor sealer is also known as an acrylic paint thinner…kinof a milky color.

you can get it at any harware store…all you do is wipe it on with a lint-free rag, and don9t touch it until you KNOW its dry (about 15-20 mins, faster if you have a hairdryer).

you dont need to buff it on or do anything special, its just best if you get one good clean swipe, and move on to the next area. I go lengthwise down the board, starting at the rails, and if there are any missed spots, just wait until its dry to go over them again.

since the stuff goes on in a filmy kinof layer, if you touch it before its dry it just grabs your cloth and gets stuff stuck in your finish, and it doesnt sand well…itll gum your paper up really fast!

the pinlines were all posca and tape…took me around 3 hours to get it done, mostly because the thick areas of the yellow pinline at the nose and tail…plus yellow doesnt cover dark blue very well!

in hindsight, i wish i had done epoxy pinlines just to releive that time with the posca, but in the end they turned out great!
