Hey Mr. Loerh, I’ve been working with your epoxy. I like it! It real easy to work with as long as I keep the temp real constant. It’s real clear & wets out great. I’m planning on wrapping a 9’5"x22.5" performance lonboard with double 6oz. How much resin should I expect to use? Will one hot coat with additive “F” build enough thickness for me to polish to board out or should I go with two? Can I shoot the second one before the first one is completely cured so I get a real good bond and can take the board right through the sanding process to polishing with out applying a second coats of resin? Research and development continues in the fin shop, Rich
Rich, Double 6 oz on a 9’5" should be in the range of 30 oz. per side. That may be a bit light but you can always mix more. Be sure to get it out of the bucket right away so you have more work time and if you need to mix more there won’t be any gelling going on from the first batch. On your hot coats, do a pre sand on your lamination and then, maybe, you can get away with a single hot coat. If you do a reverse lap you’ll get better results too. If you decide to do a double hot coat, you can shoot the second when the first is tacky. It will actually come out better that way than if you let it dry.
