I have a 9’9" W Clark blank that should arrive tomorrow. The plan is to build a 60s style curser, similar to the redfin design. Wondering if anyone has any experience with the 9’9" and any recommendations specific to this blank. Thanks Scott
Hey Shine, I believe the 9’9W is an older blank that was recently revived. For some reason it’s expensive. The 9’9 is a good alternative if you want a good, cheaper blank.
actually, it was introduced in Feb 2002, but was designed for retro shapes. It will be on the shaping rack tomarrow – so another blank is not currently an option. But thanks just the same. SS
Wayne Rich shaped the plug last year.
hey Shine, back in the shaping bay huh? good. I shaped one with +3/4n +1 T last 24. I thought the natural would be a little too flat. that adjustment left a decent break in the rocker to be blended. it’s turned out to be a really good board… http://www.swaylocks.com/resources/Detailed/491.html
i made a board out of that one earlier this summer. it’s a thick blank, esp. in the nose. made a good 9-6 noserider. big ol single fin. added some rocker to the tail, that thing sticks in great while on the tip. good luck!
Shine: I did a 9’6" single from the one I had. Natural rocker, classic noserider outline. I thought it was a great blank, lots of foam to work with. Tom S.
All good news. Glad to see some folks of notoriety if not fame have shaped it. The plan for this beast is a classic single for the under 3’ foot days. I ordered it with Triple cedar stringers – 1/4" on center with 1/8" sides. Big single fin in a box – I have a 9" finworks fin – its actually a sailboard fin that not only has a classic, simple shape – but a few years ago I put it in an absolute slug of long board just for kicks and it turned a board we had knick named the “manatee” (as it surfed like a fat cow) in to a rock’n stick. I used the plus rocker adjustments and plan to add a little more. And the best news is, this one is going to mine! Shine
