Sounds like the same one my youngest son has. Camera is just ok based on digital camera picture quality 10 years ago. Basically the pictures suck. Housing is very much like a GoPro though.
i’d personally just save up the extra $150 for a gopro 3 white (which is FULL of features) and never need another water camera for 5+ years if you’re a hobbyist. they’re so inexpensive for what they can do and the gopro 3’s image quality and features are unparalleled. the photo burst modes are so ideal for surfing or wave photos if you’re in the water. with the wifi stuff now you can see the images on your phone after the sesh w/ the free app. it just seems like a waste of $50 for the cheapo.
it’s kind of like buying a BIC or a surftech. sure it’s cheap and you can get waves, but if you just went a little further, you could get so much more for so much longer as your experience and desires grow.
video grabs (not even photo mode) from a gopro 3 in waist high, high tide, micro barrels (not surfing, just trying to be a clark little wannabe…who knew mondos in VTA could pump like this haha). they’re just too fun.
I still view my GoPro purchase as the biggest waste of money I’ve made in a long time. Only used it twice. Gave it to my 14 year old…and he’s only bothered with it once or twice. Its just not a very useful camera…to me. Not into making selfies. I’ve found my Fuji Finepix waterproof camera is much better suited for water shots of other surfers and my Sony HX300 with 50X telephoto lense is the bomb for shooting from the beach. The GoPro wastes away in a drawer somewhere.
