A CLASS ACT(ion)

Paul, glad your eye is ok. Pointy surfboard noses and their possible damage to the eye is something that bothers me since i saw a one-eyed surfer with his board that had the nose rounded (as a result of his eye loss, i guess) while walking home from a spot.

Something like this is imho a good solution, with the bonus of protecting the eyes from uv radiation. They say the lenses are shatter-proof.

Glad you’re okay.

I got the end of a shovel handle dead centre in the eye socket years ago ( don’t ask : ) ) I’m certainly glad that wasn’t pointed.

I havn’t forgotten the 'pointy noses are stupid thread '( find it if you havn’t seen it guys it’s a good read) - it’s rounded noses for me from here on in. Macho aesthetics be damned.

'its called common sense

being carefull an considerate of other does not make you a panzy

it makes a safe and happy comunity’

And there it is- consideration for others safety as well as our own .

I notice Webber has round tips on his new line of Afterburners.

He’d better watch it with these though - double jeopardy !

In reality, I think you’d be hard pushed to win a law suit…

Seeing as almost every board for the last few decades has one.

They havn’t just suddenly become dangerous.

So every surfboard manufacturer is guilty of making unsafe goods…

Surely common sense would prevail in the justice system?

man, did you guys just hear me say “common sense” and “justice” in the same sentence?

What a concept! sorry for scaring you all

wow, lots of thought and input on this one

i would certainly feel some degree of responsibilty if it was one of my boards

especially if it was a 7 year old kid

ive been hurt by fins and rails

for a while there there were fins with pretty sharp leading edges

they were bloody stupid as well.

but nothing like from the nose or tail of a board

they are the ones, from stretched leggies

i always cover my head when surfacing

was unlucky this time.

but when your surfing hollow waves everything is magnified

commit to a baz and youll likely land on your fins at some stage

but i was googling some stats (and others experiences) and its the nose that causes the most damage

and its does a lot

just to remove any doubt

heres the second day shot

you can see it was right in the socket and would have lost it for sure

if pros surfing had any sense of social responsibilty, they would use there influence as role model for youth,

by insisting on a blunt nose

and as kit and says

the board is an inch shorter with ZERO difference

Actually an inch for the pointy nose and then another inch with an american nose guard it would have glanced off the side of your face and not even been close to the eye socket. All the injuries are from the blunties and the non american nose guard pointies.

Pointy with nose guard and protec fins would be the safest set up.

love your eye shadow, looks like that Finn guy to me.

actually kit i rekon you could easily win a lawsuit

its pretty simple stuff if you look at the statistics

a parent isnt aware of its danger unless pointed out.

its not a useful design feature and its most THE most likely point of impact

due to the fact the fckin board is usually going in that direction

and in a crowded break is basically a weapon

but my post was a suggestion of the “possiblity” of a lawsuit followed by a class action

it only would take one case to set a precedent

and could effectively bankrupt a company

definitely not worth the risk

and beside that are still fcking stupid!

hey faded i tried those sunnies but they seem to fog up on me

OTAY your wrong as usual!

i honestly dont know how you expect anyone to take you seriously anymore!

that is so dum shit stoopid

i had lots of close calls so then a ways back i started covering my eyes with my hands on certain wipeouts. then i had another close call where the nose spilt my fingers apart and popped me in the brow. i instantly realised the weakness in that approach so now i cover my eyes with the palms of my hands on those ‘tumble in the barrel with your board wipeouts.’ i also started shaping 2" broad noses and dulling the backs of the fins a bit too. good luck with healing

sorry to hear about your eye. but it was the legrope’s fault your board hit you.

One time, I cut my finger with the edge of a piece of printer paper.

It felt like a razor cut and hurt really bad.

I should sue those paper making bastards.

its a bit different

an the reason why surfboards are banned around swimmers

they just do so much fckin damage to people

i do know americans like guns

however the whole kmart selling them to 16 year olds

well its kinda Kmarts fault really isnt it

but then its the governments fault for letting Kmart do it

so if a 16 year old buys a gun from kmart and maims someone

then the government is really liabel for sheer stupidity

but then really a handgun has been created for only one purpose

so in reality is the manufactures fault

ya cant blame a monkey for shooting itsself in the foot

you blame the dckhead that handed it the gun

there was a headline today that this 9 year old will probable never walk again

because he was doing 20 meter jumps on motorcross

and his parents allowed this very stupid thing

a nine year old has no awareness of the mechanics of the human body or the potential risk

its the guardians responsibilty

to many kids are being pushed or allowed by parents into extreme situations in the name of “harden up”

or “outdoors types”

now i surf crowded breaks at times and the amount of kooks that cant hang on to there boards

or kelly wannabes that try big manouvers while people are paddling close by

well its not really a safe environment for your kids

especially with pointy hard spears flying at there faces every five minutes

a blunt nose with a rubber guard would prevent at least half of all surfboard related injuries and there are statistics to prove it

if anyone cant see this

i pity your kids

I know how you New Zealanders like bungee jumping and smoking cannabis but it is just the NZ’s governments fault for letting this go on.
The first person to ever die from a bungy jump was in New Zealand on February 10th, 1990. He was Thomas Wayne Hemi, and only 19 years of age. The “Jump Master” was all of 21, but had held over 2000 jumps.

Thomas died as a result of not being hooked up properly, the jump master had been smoking cannabis at the top with his assistance, Thomas and a friend had flipped a coin to see who would jump first. Thomas won.

The jump master did not attach the correct cord to him and hooked it over a nail. Thomas fell to his death.

Tommy did not die instantly but survived for 20 minutes after the jump, just long enough for his family, to say goodbye to him before he passed away.

You can’t blame the monkey for getting wasted and hooking up the equipment wrong and killing Thomas. You blame the dckhead that handed him the joint.
nah actually i do blame the dealers for drug related crimes

but the guy involved wth safety blowing numbers

it was clearly his fault

but then again these days? with employmemt law, risk management, drugtesting , and background checks

the company that hired him made a pretty bad judgment

deepest pocket is the company

there was an accident in NZED up the river recently with something like ten 14 year olds drowned in a flooded river

i saw the weather map 3 days out and told my missus we would get flooding

yet an outdoors company and park rangers couldnt make the call

no joints involved just fckers that cant make sensible decisions

i think they didnt want to disapoint the kids

I used the same logic you used with the kmart gun STORY you describe. Which is it??? Gotta go now. I have a gun lovers meeting to go to. Us Americans just love guns, just like you suggest!!!

the deepest pocket

id be after the companys blood on that one

but really

its the parents fault

also never trust and outdoors pursuit guide

ive hung with them and alot are trying hard to prove something
