a couple guys worth mentioning..

as mentioned in solos other post

not everyone out there needs or seeks the limelight here in never-neverland

Such as these two guys who keep plugging along making craft with little fan fare other than a media grab here and there.

Just like a quite Mr.Young plugging away on the big island doing his thing these guys deserve a nod or two.

Marlon Bacon and his work with 101fin

And Brian King who’s still slaving away over at Otis’s factory in Wahiawa doing what he does best.

seem like only the actor was able to make a career out of the experience.

I guess we forget how many hundreds and hundreds of folk are still slugging away giving it their best shot at trying to do the best they can while the rest get the pleasure of playing with the lostboys in never-never land.

hats off to those those plugging away the best they can everyday just outside the limelight.

Amen Bernie…Double Amen.

I was just thinking that the other day. You have to admire the guys that choose the path of huge risk for usually not much reward, financially, or socially. The guys who just do it coz they love it, or feel strongly that there is an alternative to the masses. These are people who probably suffer in other areas because of their choice, but do it anyway. Gotta admire that.

Hats off to those guys for resisting that big dangling ( poisoned ) carrot

Has anyone here seen Brian King surf? OMG… He’s the one who started calling me bammbamm around…oh 25 years ago or so. Very talented shaper and glasser and one very unique individual in a sea of conformist wannabes. Don’t always know what the hell he’s talking about, but it never sounds like anything anyone else is saying.

I’ll drink to that Oneula. We have plenty of these salt of the earth sea dogs around here. I’m gonna go order a custom of Chris Brock tomorrow so I’ll see if he lets me take a few photos of his quiver and other stuff.

yes please lennox !!

i would LOVE to see his boards , old and new …he and richie west were responsible for my brother riding stubbies

cheers

ben

[and the influence rubbed off on me , too…

Me too!! CB tried to talk me into a twin fin years ago but I didn’t, he wouldn’t remember. Big influence on my surfing and boards.

Not Brian King, but Benny King from Byron used to just rip, maybe Lennox76 knows him.

thats cool . . . agree with you on that one Oneula . . .

Sorry to pass this on Wildy but Benny King dropped dead from a heart attack last year during the Aussie Titles at Angourie. Huge shock to the local surfing fraternity. He was a bloke with a heart of gold much loved and respected by all who met him. RIP BK.

Hiro, you read Stephenson? You prefer the cyberpunk stuff or Crypto/Baroque? I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but I really enjoyed the Cycle and Cryptonomicon. Best stuff I’ve read in ages. I’m sad now that there’s no more to read. Write, Neal, write!
