A current project

The black pattern is polyurethane nonskid…

Nice Project Dale!

I saw the trailer on the link you posted in the other thread and it’s really interesting. Thanks for answering.

I like the pictures and short videos i saw about those magic carpets, but i always see them on long, clean point breaks. Can you tell us how do they perform in the short waves of a beach break like the ones we use to surf here in Europe?

Thanks in advance Dale!

Hi Coque,

My surf mats are ridden in the Netherlands, England, France, as well as Australia, West, East and Gulf coasts of the U.S., Hawaii, Japan, Tasmania, Indonesia, the Phillipines, South Africa, British Columbia, Mozambique, Morrocco, Mexico, Costa Rica, etc.

Anyone who rides a modern surf mat for very long has a paradigm shift in the way they look at waves. Your perspective on what conditions are fun and makeable really opens up. There are maybe 2 dozen contributors to Swaylocks who have all gone through that same experience.

In fact, mat surfing`s most experienced rider, George Greenough, has spent most of his life enjoying lower quality waves. This is because mats excel in such conditions, and also because less than ideal surf is often uncrowded.

So, while I do recommend their use on longer waves, their performance is definitely not limited to powerful, larger, hollow and smooth. They`re great for skimming over lumpy dead spots and racing through critical sections.

If you want to feel some serious speed, it helps to to have a longer runway…

Sweet tiger stripe!

A hypnotizing pattern with mesmerizing speed. Dale, you continue to blow minds with your designs. Nice!

Does the new surface have the grippy drips like the old one?

Coool pattern on the mat.

I dont know if this was covered elsewhere:

Of course its not only cool but practical

it involves a pattern that some people

think reminds sharks of food that they are

not interested in…a shark-proof pattern.

Way overdue for I think amongst the

Sharkbait chain the hierarchy may be:

  1. matters

  2. bodyboards

  3. kneeboards

  4. Standup Surfers

Hi Lee,

No… this mat`s nonskid is fairly smooth. I used the same grippy polyurethane, but with a different application. FYI, the original pattern was from a Zebra.

Holy Transvaal Inger dot da mearde…1st wave tonite stuffed into the critical spot and jet plunged accross the face, pull forward straight arming the inside chamber.three kick maybe 4 and jolt juxtaposed silent instant before getting the rumble without tumble and glide onto the fat space between close interval swells and ducking down and clear with a solid WOW face clearly stamped on my visage… ambrose…not a lined up circumnavigation, medium tide reefbreak

oh yea make mine red zeeb…with turq.highlights …soon …ambrose…

Thanks for the info Dale.

I think i’ll receive a copy of Crystal Voyager soon, so maybe there i can see the performance of a retro surf mat with a GOOD driver on it.

Those vehicles look really interesting.

Good work!

Sigh

I would dearly love one of these, but being in the Uk, once shipping is factored in, it will be beyond my purse.

Seems like I’ll have to try this cheap imitation ‘Surfster’ shaped like a boogie board that I found on ebay, until such time I’m next in Ca.

Dont suppose many used ones come up for sale very often???

do they also come in the louis vuittion pattern!!! jeez, lets hope not.

the surfster is surprizingly fun. I have been messing with one while I am waiting for a mat from Dale. I use it partially inflated like the matters do and it works pretty good. Until you can get the real thing it’s a good alternative. And it’s cheap on e-bay.

Hint: the Surfster`s PVC bladder used without its nylon shell has even more potential.

ZOOMatic!!

Los Ambrose just got the song and words together wth Bohorquez thanks , we will sing the song of the Vaqueros de Las Olas in Big Sir soon.Only seemed right to have Steve put the tune to your poem,7th generation Californian.Aloha KP.Dale nice job.

so, Mr Solomon, you’re suggesting I rip the ‘rather tacky’ cover off said surfster and get something halfway decent?

Given that your admirably crafted mats are by a long stretch the best around [everyone says it] how would the somewhat boogieboard shaped surfster perform without it’s extraenous bits, and where do I tie the leash?

Or are you suggesting we peel off the outer zebra layer of the young lady to release that potential???

good things take time…I am so glad that the inspiration wasnt lost to the void (my greatest fear). The song II of caminos de olas is stewing in my mind…ambrose///…
