A friend asked me to copy a old 70 TF for him and this is how it turned out. I really like shaping retro style boards. He also allowed me to go nuts with earth tone color. It was a three stage glass job. I did the bottom first free lapped in color. I knew that the splash on the deck would hide the mess on the along the rail. Then I cheated and used my template to draw the cutline then free hand cut. The third was a clear over the deck color and wrapping the zip cut tail. Then I dropped the boxes adding another tail patch adding even more strength. Then sanded and gloss polish. I still haven rode this board yet but now that he has put a few ding in it I may have to take it for a spin. All I know is he loves the board and thats all that really matters.
Thanks Ryan. I’m guessing maybe a A butt +++? I think I had to fix a bubble on the wing but nobody would see it but I do every time I look at it. The nice thing about Acid splash is you can get away with more. Thanks again
Thanks T. Boards are like women. They can be made to look beautiful but ya never know how sweet they are till they’ve been ridden hard and put away wet!
Glad ya had a laugh Xander. This site needs more laughing and less Lip smacking, bitch slapping, bad mouthing whiney ass BS. If ya have an issue with someone send them a personal message because no one gives a shit what you think. I had a fan letter (PM) message tonight. I love fan mail. From people threatening me with useless words its kind of funny. Im going to save them for a future post.
Yeah, I came to this site for information and research. All of the useless bantering back and forth about who knows more is pointless. Just let the pictures show what you are made of. My pictures say I am a broke ass college student trying to make my own boards for my friends and I.
Sanolocal, you’ve been one reason I have been posting more. We need more old guys willing to give inspiration.
2 things I hate seeing on this thread are the attacks, and then the posts from people who are only trying to publicize themselves. Some don’t even build boards, just sell them. I don’t think this is the right part of Sways for that.
I don’t mind seeing a nice healthy disagreement, but the attacks… no.
I’m also trying to learn things from this place. If someone has a better way of doing something, I absorb that knowledge. If I don’t think it fits the way I want to do things I just let it go. I’ve found that combining the input from several people will give you a better result than just taking one point of view. The other thing is that a big part of any art and craft work is time spent learning how to use the tools. One person might be able to use a tool in a way that you never thought possible or that made sense. That doesn’t mean it is wrong. Power tools were designed to reduce the labor involved, computer controlled tools take that to an extreme. It’s not right or wrong, it’s what the end user thinks is best for the work they do.
When I first started making boards I realized that the time you need to invest to get a really good end result wasn’t what I wanted to do. Luckily I had started working full time right out of HS, so I had money to get a board whenever my board died. Now I’m old and board building is more for the enjoyment, and because the pros don’t want to be making really weird shit.
