A custom recreated Nuuhiwa from early 70's Twin Fin

Harry: very well said.  I miss you and your brother.

Sanolocal:  I am totally blown away by your board.  You do inspire me and raised the bar also.  Well done!

Mahalo,

D

Hey Dennis, you are also one of the good builders always adding positive vibe. I wish I could glass like you do.

Been out of the water for over a month now. Maybe one of these days, I’ll get down to Trees in the morning and surf with you guys. Bernie’s been out of the water longer with his bum knee. He got a cool asym from plusone that he wanted me to try, but I’m gonna let him be the first to ride it. Right now I’m just riding my ten-o and having a blast.

Take care… Harry

Xander I olny build my boards for friends too. I’m a brook ass surfer too. Your not special B)

Thanks so much Harry. If I inspired you to step it up then I did something right today.

I keep coming back here…to drool.

I can’t seem to pull myself away.

Amazing board.

Need a bib lankameese

Thanks I take that as a compliment. B)

Hi Rob -

I like the slippery looking shape.  The glass job is icing on the cake.  Someone else liked the tail to nose shot with the deck up... me too.  It shows the nice foil.

I wonder if you might clarify for me?...

"Then I cheated and used my template to draw the cutline then free hand cut."

I'm always game to learn a shortcut or two.  It looks like you shifted the template pattern inward 2" or so and brought out the tail so it exited the rail at the wings?  Then trace around before laying your tape line?  Did you zip the deck lap behind the wings?

"Free hand" cut?  Not sure what that means...

I've seen zippered (cut along the rail apex) swirls followed by an opaque lam with full laps to cover the zip.  How far did you lap the first side?  I can't tell where it ends and I can see the stringer on the deck so it can't be a totally opaque swirl job.

Hey John. After I finished shaping the board I used my temp and a light blue pencil to draw in the nose and eyed the line down to the tip of the wings. Light blue won’t show like a black lead will. Then I taped off the bottom and did my color work once it was off enough to flip and cut I free hand cut the 4oz while it was still green enough to cut by hand. I don’t lift the tape and cloth to cut I just cut along the tape to get a super clean cut. The cleaner the cut the smaller the pinline. The thin 1/16 inch pinline is much easier to pull then a 1/8. I like pulling a pinline by eye not using 1/8 cheater tape.

I did zip the tail from the wing back. Then I free lapped the bottom in a light green followed by another clear freelap on the deck. That way I was able to wrap my zip twice to make it as strong as I could. After I dropped the boxes I capped the whole tail making it even more strong around the zip area of the tail.

All the swirl work is done in tints with a little more tint added to my cups that I pour into my base. I do use a little opaque but very little like a little black and white to highlight my colors.

Stoked you like the board. Thanks

its funny i was just talking to the owner of this board about seeing it on here, and then the discussion comes up.  great looking board!!, i want to see him throw on a center fin and see how he likes it. its cool to see someones creation put to work , and put to work well!.

Thanks Gloda. He loves the board and has tried it with different fins and with a small nubster trailer. He likes it best with the cutaway keels best.  I still haven’t ridden the board but will soon.

Looks Like Sherman and Peabody have set the Wayback machine to 1973!  That is one of the more tasteful acid splashes I have seen.
