A little bit better each time.

Just come inside from sanding my little fishyeggy pacman board. This is the 5th board i've done, and im slowly getting better. I actually used a planer for the rail bands, although they were still crude, and my glassing went pretty well, only a few small areas i needed to patch. To my surprise, i found that getting the rails nice and smooth by hand is pretty easy, almost therapeutic. I started with reasonably smooth laps, and added an extra coat on the rails between lam and hotcoats, so i had plenty of meat to sand into. I also went from 180-240-320. Made it pretty easy, and while its not up to pro standard, its looking decent ( although the very tips of the nose and swallow tips are a bit bumpy ).

Stoked!, and thought i'd share. Can't wait to ride the bloody thing, just needs boxes and plugs, and im gettin it wet!.

I just completed my 5th board also, and have seen some definite progress.  The more I learn the more I realize I still don't know, but my glassing has improved some.  The uphill run at that learning curve can be a bear, esp in the beginning!   Congrats on your new board, it looks great.  BTW, interesting tip on the rails, I'll have to try it, I always burn thru to the glass on my rails.

Thanks huck, my artwork is no where near as good as yours though!. Someone told me a while ago about the extra coat on the rails, but for some silly reason ( impatience probably ) i never did it. Im glad i did it this time.
