A New Board On The Shaping Rack

"Your killing me Billy"!!!!!!

Ken,

I've never been much of a camera guy in the past, and that has carried over into the present.    Once I start to roll, I stay focused, and don't get distracted.    Fact is, I've never documented any board build.    Ping my e-mail  thrailkillsurfboards@cox.net  and I'll post a few photo's to you, that might shed some light on aspects of the gun I'm building.

Well, the  nine foot gun is shaped, and now in glassing.     The wood color really popped, when it was pre coated with lam resin.

The two boards, the 6'0'' x 21''   twinfin, and the 9' 0'' gun , are finished and have been delivered.     I'm told the gun will on display at the Sacred Craft.    It will not be difficult to spot.    It came out quite nice.   I hope some of you get a chance to see it.

Bill, what shaping program did you use for the design of the boards?

I don't know whether to laugh or cry!   The  1/8th inch thick Masonite templates had lines hand drawn on them, that were cut out by hand, and the curves were then trued by eye, using a hard sanding block with 60 grit sandpaper.   What's a shaping program??

I couldn’t resist bill. Seems that some people believe a surfboard can easily be whipped up on the pc, just like that, no experience needed. The older I get, the more I appreciate hand made stuff. I hope someone puts up a pic of your boards mate, love to see them.

Thank you Beerfan for lobbing it softly across the plate; great stuff Bill.

I weighed the two boards today, on a digital scale, accurate to +/- one ounce.    The 6'0'' x 21'' Broomtail Fish, double glass deck, single bottom, with gloss & polish.   Weight:  10 pounds.   The 9' 0'' x 21'' full gun, triple glass deck, single bottom, gloss & polish.   Weight: 16.5 pounds.    Finished weights, without fins.  Both of these boards are personal boards of Bird.  Both boards will be at the BIRD'S SURF SHED booth, at next weeks SACRED CRAFT.   I will be there on Saturday to answer any questions about the boards.   If you drop by, please identify yourself with your Swaylocks handle.     It's always nice to see who's who.

im with beerfan bill, damn I wish I could see em mate, but being in oz I strike out.

Stunning !

Wow!!!

looks beautiful. Great job

The photo's were taken at Bird's Surf Shed, by my phone camera.    Not very good quality images.  The board makes a much stronger impression in person, than in my photo's.     The rocker is not apparent in the photo's, but it is ample enough to ride anything you'd care to tackle.         I've ridden 25 foot at Waimea with that template, and my friend Marshall White rode 30 foot Makaha on a board made with the same template.   The board will be at Sacred Craft this weekend.

I'm digging the stringer too...more info?

thanks

Beautiful board Bill!  I’m really liking the fin.  Is that your design?  So many boards these days are over finned.  That looks like a perfect balance with the tail width.

Beautiful job Mr. T. Really nice shape, love to have one! Great job by the finisher, glossy as hell! Pinlines are superb. Looks like a great team effort. Tail block and inlays are bitchin too. Someday I'll come barking at your door (hopefully). Thanks for posting the photos.

Wow Bill!!! that is amazing. Tell Bird David says hi. I worked for  him for a couple of years. I wish I could go to that show…
