Well another ASR has come and gone. I don’t have the exact numbers. But, it appeared that this show was 80% skate and 20% surf. All the usual distractions. Got to talk to many old friends and meet a few new. The Surfing Industry really is a small tight group. Or maybe more acurrately few groups. All in all I accomplished more than I hoped. I even met a new competitor. Jim Banks is making a new fin system called Speed Fins. They are kind of polar opposites from Red X. Jim took a box that looks very similar to the old OAM system. But, it is much shorter. It has a split cylindrical clip in the center and the root of the fin has a male counter part between the two vertical cross section of the old OAM system. The root of the fin is located forward on the base of the fin, leaving the back forty percent un supported at the base. This allows the trailing edge to flex under load in the direction of the water flow. Just another way of looking at optimizing the function of fins.

Please to explain the "OAM system, the confusion of queer name is > puzzling! Two or three years ago On A Mission marketed a fin system that was devloped in Australia by Fin Tech and Jolly (I forget his last name). The box was shaped like two FCS plugs with a connection between. Early versions had little puzzel fingers around its perimeter to increase the surface area interlock with the resin. The cavity and root were shape like two crusifixes joined end to end. The fins ended up like to stick in the box better than the boxes liked to stay in the board. OAM had spent alot of money on initial marketing and when problems became evident they dropped it. It is still being sold in Australia under it’s original label.

Geez Magic, Wadaha think , there’s no chicks good enough to use this > website? Have some manners , Please. As far as I’m concerned Darla, gender has no corner on contributions here. So I for one hold an invitation open to all, though I don’t presume to speak for swaylocks I think I’m on pretty safe ground with my encouragement. I’ve always been very fond of mermaids. I’m always on the lookout for one everytime I go surfin’! You just never know when… Mahalo, Rich
