Insulation foam rails (waterproof), balsa pair-a-bowlshaped stringers, 2 lb. EPS core. Quadfin, 6-1 x 21 x 16T, 14"N.
Inspired by what I saw like it on Surfermag’s design forum, it was a …Lost thruster, and Drewtang’s hi-dense foam railed boards, and of course, all the other pair-a-bowlers I’ve seen as well.
Sweet looking board surfthis! What are the nose and tail rocker dimensions, and tip to tip, buttcrack? Have a pic of the topside straight on? I like the foil towards the tail!
wow - that is just killer! (Drewtang’s work IS inspiring, eh)
pair a bowls rule!
do you shape the board then cut the rails off then replace with glued up pair a bowls with the blue foam glued to the outside then blend the stringer/rails out?
Am I missing something here? What exactly is a pair-a-bowl? Are you meaning Parabola?
Dave
I guess you’re kidding, or you missed Roy’s rant about Parabolic Stringers not really being parabolic. Just my weak attempt at humor. So yes, I am meaning parabola.
Thanks everyone for the kind words. As for N and T rocker, it is straight off a 6-2C, I haven’t measured it, but I didn’t vary much from the rocker profile I made from that blank. The butt crack is about 9"+/-, I can measure for you, but I can’t remember off the top of my head. I’ll post up a straight-on pic later. Glued up with PU foaming glue with 1/4" balsa. I drew the outline on the deckside then played with where my pair-a-bowls would go until I liked how they looked. I cut the outline to the those lines, glued up balsa then glued up XPS, redrew the outline on the bottom, then shaped the whole mess. It is a single concave from center out the buttcrack. It rides well, may need a little bigger fins as it didn’t feel like it had as much drive as I’d like, but it could’ve been the chitty waves I took it out in.
She was doing burlesque at some venue last year during the Hot Rod Roundup in Austin–the Roundup has tons of pics on its site and it was after almost getting tired of looking at hotrods and the people that like them that I ran across this burlesque entertainment sequence and this here purty gal–I chose this pic very very carefully. But here’s the start of her routinehttp://www.lonestarroundup.com/Gallery/2006/pages/IMG_1433.htm
and you can see how she develops the glory. Check out the big feller up front–I don’t know how he stayed in one place…
I like the board. The blue foam on the rail is the way to do it.
Thanks, that pun escaped me. All I could think of was a bowl shape. But actually, I think you’re on the money. Much more like a bow! Just need the arrow…
Another analogy that was kind of different was the guy that looked at it from the nose view and said something about a cameltoe. Go figure…
Edit: Bottom view, finished! Tail tip to tip is 10.5" and crack is 7" deep.
