A Repair Question

Hey guys, I thought this would be a proper place to ask this question.

After a long flight back home, I found some slight indentation like damage on the rails of my boards. I was wondering if those were only 'cosmetic' damages or something that might require some repairing.

And here are the pictures if I didn't mess it up.

Thanks. :)

Hi!

Looks really minor

Is it PU?

Did you shape it?

If the bottom half is sort of ok, me personally i would leave it.

If you don;t want to, try and heat it up with a hair dryer, real slowly, it might just go back to its original shape a bit.

Ciao!

It looks like a fibreglass construction.

This normally happens when the area takes, even a small impact. The glass sort of fractures allowing you to see the fibres in that area.

It is still going to be watertight and shouldn’t need a repair on it

at least seal it

Theory…extremely minor air bubbles in the glass  laminate. Unpressurised un heated luggage hold in the plane. Low external pressure causes slight expansion of trapped air resulting in extremely minor internal delam in cloth weave.

Could be or am I just blowing hot air lol.

Just leave it alone and surf it. You have never shipped boards to Hawaii, have you…

Pressure dings from your heels do more damage that what you have here.  Little zippers like that are what happens when you put your board in the back of a truck with three other boards!  LOL  Boards wear out.  That’s why shapers like us have jobs and Swaylocks is here!

Interesting. looks more like a slightly dry lay-up in the first place rather than damage.

Cheers,

Soooo comon.  Cause;  impact.  Ever sat up at the gate and watched thru the window as da bruddas took luggage off the cart and "tossed" it into the luggage compartment of your flight??  That kind of damage is characteristic of a bagged board being "tossed' and smacking against other luggage.  Nothing scientific about it.  Just impact and recoil.  If you sanded it and recoated with poly or put a piece of 4 oz over it and recoated you'd be doing more than you need to do.  Lowel
