Howzit e-pacman, I can think of 5 more contests at Pine Trees not counting the states in the next couple of months. The Irons Brothers contest is this weekend, then the last HSA contest for qualifing for the states, the Quicksilver kids contest , the Volcom, and the Pine Trees Longboard Classic, plus there might be 1 or 2 that I don’t know about. Say Aloha to J.A. for me. Aloha,Kokua
Hey Ambrose, you guys pick a date that works for you and I guarantee I will be there, sound great to me. I’ll bring a board to raffle or auction and we’ll do what we can. I still think raffling off a ticket to Kauai is a good idea too, but if you’re shooting for 2 weeks from now that might not be enough time… or maybe it would, who knows?
heck april 1st the pagan new year?
what a dream two weeks advance ticketing required for the deal fares if I’m not mistaken …what say ye will dog gotta date?
box o’puppies
how do we gett’em in the box?..
…ambrose…
which one’s out
Mike – good luck w/ all of the judging. I just bought J.A.’s personal 10’ 0” Buzzy Trent model ala Brewer pipeliner. I’ve rode it a few times at Rincon. Jim’s working at Clyde’s in the airbrush wing at the factory. Still shaping w/ W. R.
Aloha!
Ambrose = funny guy.
hey aint spitzer san coming /when is his res ? make it coincidental/? what 's a date mean a dinner a?.. a surf? a three day meeting a confrence a roll book? a n auction raffle? jeepers…ambrose…
Well if its all the same to y’all, the cheapest airfares I’ve seen are up until March 10, or after April 11th…otherwise, I’d suggest for days of the week that we pick a Thurs/Fri/Sat/Sun and we can try to fill it all up with stuff to do. Thurs prep work, Friday night feed, Saturday & Sunday surfing shindig & fund raisers… Kokua said there were other contests, maybe the same weekend as one of those.
Kokua?
Hobcawannie?
Herb, when are you going?
Pick a weekend.
Howzit Keith, Kind of hard for me to set a date since the contests I will be working all have alternate dates which could cause problems. But if the party happens while I’m working a contest at least you guys will be in the immediate area. What happened to Hobcawannie, she was the one with the most contacts for prizes. I still think it should be up to the people who are coming over to set a date, since we’ll be here when you get here. All we need is a couple of weeks notice to get this end together. We need to get this thing out of first gear if it’s going to happen.Aloha,Kokua
OK then, I can’t speak for anyone else but I’m going to start with the weekend of April 22 as being a target, with the next weekend being a fallback option…
Howzit Keith, OK now we’re shifting into second gear plus that gives us some time. Aloha,Kokua
alright!!! lets do it! ya’ll ARE serious whoa…im in! what ever i can do to help! swear it. im in the process now of putting together a type of guide service here on the island and this would be a wonderfull way for me to start. ill be doing transfers to and from where ever people are staying. taxi’s are so expensive…take me up on this offer at super cheap rates. ill pick you guys up from the airport and take you where ever ya’ll wanna stay. kokua had suggested to me the ymca, north shore in haena. but just a suggestion. im thinking about renting out my studio for a week. so if your interested in that too. if anyone has any questions about where is cheapest or closest or what else to do when not obviously surfing give me a holler!! 808 822 3081. id love to hear from you . leave a message and ill ring ya back. most importantly im stoked to meet some of you guys ive been reading about on the site. hahaha. what a trip! of course if you need help with me planning and stuff or organising tell me! ill do it! i can come up with some rad prizes fro the raffle if you want . ok . ill leave you with that . cant wait to hear from you! hobcawannie
ok, I think the pre-event raffle might be a good thing to work on next. I’m going to contact Hawaiian airlines about an open ended ticket (or 2) to raffle off. Might just have to do a gift certificate or something like that, not sure how the logistics will work best. I’m sure there are some mainlanders who would be happy to show up if they won a plane ticket for the shindig, no?
and we should work on a schedule too.
I think the transfers/taxi service is a great idea. And definitely think about other raffle stuff…
yep good call 4-22 plenny good…thats an eight= infinity
the second day o’summer…trilling concept
now’s the fun part ,makin room for the optimum to reveal itself…
will we start a list of optionsperhaps on the swaylaholix annomus page or should this be the swaynami relief and resurection?
this may take some sleeping to get the propper insight
…ambrose… this is closer for the austral contingint
ok -
1)Who and What? I’m willing to be west coast coordinator, and hobcawannie seems excited enough about her chosen tasks (transport, accomodations & raffle prizes). Kokua seems to know more about surf contests so maybe we can rely on him for expertise there. I still think an expression session is the way to go. Maybe participants chip in $10 toward the fund, we can have some small prizes or a trophy. T shirts. Ambrose, I know you love to cook (so do I) so maybe we can work out the luau & other grub. I’d see that as being very casual but if people who attend want to throw in a few bucks for the relief fund it might be cool. Any musicians out there want to show up and play?
I will also work on the raffle prizes, got some pretty good ideas I think. I am not sure if an auction is too much but if we could swing it I think that would bring in some money too - sort of depends on how big of a crowd we might get. Maybe a silent auction would work – do it over the internet? If we can put out enough flyers to bring a bunch of locals in too, a live auction would work.
- When? Timing: We have just about 2 months to work in. I think the pre-swaynami raffle should go off a month from now, maybe 5 weeks. That way whoeever wins the plane ticket(s) would still have time to plan to attend.
I’m going to check with Mike and see if we can use his Paypal link here on Swaylocks to collect raffle ticket money, etc.

Making it work/ Getting the word out: Flyers, internet, word of mouth, newspapers…When the time gets closer it would be nice if we could get a mention in the local paper. Maybe on surfermag.com as well, I know some folks here post over there too, could do some “public service announcements”?
-
Other thoughts: This may be a different approach but would it be helpful to the cause if any of the Kauai pros and/or shapers wanted to show up? (any publicity is good publicity?) Maybe we could invite Titus, Keala, Andy, Bill Hamilton, Dick Brewer…if they can’t make it maybe they can just sign some T shirts.
-
How many Swaylockers? Of course I am hoping all the Sway locals can make it too (RH, Thomas, Jimmy, who else?) How about Foamdust, Charlie, Oneula, you guys on Oahu - anybody thinking of a quick trip to Kauai? (Here’s an idea, somebody line up a fishing boat, sailboat or an outrigger canoe and cruise over that way!)
-
Other fun stuff? Dang maybe we could arrange a shape-off someplace (at Ambrose’s?) on Thursday just for fun/trading tips/and good karma…
potato shape off before dinner…or carrot or dikon
my little placefor a shape off is less han accomodating,
many shaping rooms arround perhaps availiable for ? yet time fran\me in my mind should best be served at the beach …
mini surfboard models in balsa,or haubush with a pocket knife…how many willbe needed to provide…
travel board or travel boards could be generated…
signature board signed and glossed at the beach on the day…full size or model shipped with raised fun?
Pros? would flip the event into an event perhaps diluting the swaylocks feeling?t-shirt signing?ouch
the game is afoot…ambrose…
Howzit Epac man, That was a score of a board, I was talking to some body about that board a while back and they couldn’t believe J.A. was selling it. I guess you are sponsoring the wedding.Aloha,Kokua
Howzit Keith I'll talk with the local shapers and glassers about attending and will also do flyers and talk to the local news media, Since this is a non profit thing I can see about some free radio announcements also. The expression session is the best way since we won't have to deal with county politics, we'll just be a bunch of surfers having a good time and helping the Tsunami victims at the same time. I am waiting for a call from Hanalei Surf Co. to see if the dates will conflict with any contests I will be working, but even if so we do them on Sat. except for the Pine Trees classic which is a 2 dayer. Aloha,Kokua
Hey Ambrose, I was just thinking that if a bunch of Swaylockers got together it would be a shame not to trade shaping or glassing tips – if we had time to shape or glass a board, if not we’ll just talk about it a bunch I’m sure. Daikon shape off sounds like a good one to me too, ha ha!!
Kokua, sounds like a plan, I would enjoy meeting all the local shapers & glassers too. I was thinking of having T shirts made, even for an expression session everyone will want a souvenir right? One of my cousins is in the T shirt biz, can probably get a deal on custom shirts, do we have any artists in the crowd? Shipman, feel like designing a T shirt? I personally can just about draw a stick man… on a good day. As for the pros, I’m not into that whole scene but I was just thinking it might generate more $$ for the relief effort, but if it doesn’t fit the Swaylock’s vibe I don’t mind skipping that part. Unless some of them see the fliers and just show up anyway, which would be great.
Howzit Keith, I’m going to go to the Irons brothers contest today and talk with the boys about attending the relief party. Shaper Mark Angell picked up a board from me yesterday and he said he would show up, I see the date is on a Friday, that’s good since it won’t conflect with any contests. I’m going to talk with my friend who has made a new fin system ao see if he will donate a couple of his systems. He was by the other day to give me an install kit and some plugs and I already have a request to install it on a board. I really think it’s a good system and it’s easy to use and install. Aloha,Kokua
Do you think Steve Lis would attend?
Howzit foamdust, Steve is on my list of shapers to call, already got Mark Angell to commit and talked to Terry Chung's wife today at the Irons Bros. contest but Terry is not really into much socializing, He is a very humble person and Mo said he might not be on Kauai when it happens. I'll call Steve. I also talked to Charlie Cowden the owner of Hanalei Surf Co. about some raffle items and found out the Quicksilver Kid's contest is the week prior to our thing but the backup date is the 23rd so it could be a busy weekend for me.Are you thinking of making the trip over here, the more the merrier. I'll probably have to bribe Bobby Allen to come being the grumpy old guy that he is, but he has been in the business for almost 50 years. Aloha,Kokua
